Chery Malaysia set to launch Omoda 5 & Tiggo 8 Pro next month

KUALA LUMPUR: Chery expressed its intention to re-enter the Malaysian market nearly a year back and now it is all finally falling into place.

Yes, Chery has set a debut date to step in again in the local market, i.e., July 6th, 2023. The news is specific as it was announced by the automaker via a Facebook post. Accompanying the brand launch will be the introduction of two of its popular models, the Omoda 5 and Tiggo 8 Pro. Thus forming “Phase One” of Chery’s plan for the local market, also both the cars will be locally assembled from the very beginning.

Talking about locally assembled models, Chrey recently announced its partnership with Inokom and the good news is, the production work is already in place.

A little about the Chrey Omoda 5 & Tiggo 8 Pro

The upcoming Chrey Omoda 5 hails from the B-segment crossover and will therefore compete with the likes of the Toyota Corolla Cross, Proton X50, and Honda HR-V. However, the upcoming Chery will give a good fight thanks to its stunning design and extensive tech package.

As for its powertrain, under Omoda 5’s hood lies a 1.6-liter turbocharged inline-four engine making a maximum power of 194 hp and a peak torque of 290 Nm. The future also entails a fully electric variant.

The Chery Tiggo 8 Pro, on the other hand, is based on the China-spec new Tiggo 8 Pro Max but with revised styling and more extensive specs kit. A plug-in hybrid trim is also scheduled to arrive later this year.

Both cars will be covered by a 10-year, 1,000,000 km warranty for powertrain components.

The Chinese automaker has planned a “user-centric" aftersale network with over 70 outlets nationwide. The good news is that at the time of launch, Chrey will have ‘no fewer than 30’ outlets running across the country.
