Chery Arrizo 8: The new Chinese sedan you need to know

The car you see above is the Chery Arrizo 8, and it is probably the prettiest Chinese sedan ever. It will launch in the Chinese market in Q3 2022 and is said to be good enough to rival some of the well-known market leaders like the Toyota Camry, Kia K5, and Honda Accord.

The Chery lineup is divided into two segments - Tiggo and Arrizo. While the former includes SUVs and crossovers, the latter is dedicated to sedan cars. The Arrizo 8 would only be the second sedan model after the Arrizo 5 that’s been standing alone in the segment for quite some time now.

Let’s get to know the upcoming Arrizo 8 sedan better, starting with its unveiling.

Chery Arrizo 8: Reveal & launch

The Arrizo 8 was initially scheduled to be unveiled at the now postponed Beijing Auto Show 2022, but not the automaker has revealed the sedan’s official images online. Once launched, it will be positioned above the Arrizo 5, available in three variants (Plus, Pro, and GX).

As mentioned earlier, the Chery D-segment sedan will go on sale in China in Q3 2022.

Chery Arrizo 8: Engine

The stunning-looking Arrizo 8 is offered in two petrol engine options - a 1.6-litre turbo mill making 197 PS and 290 Nm of torque and a 2.0-litre turbo unit generating 254 PS 390 Nm of torque.

The power in both options is sent to the front wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

Chery Arrizo 8: Design

The Chinese D-segment sedan puts forward an aggressive yet elegant design language that makes it look premium.

The front profile catches your eye instantly, thanks to the massive grille. The prominent intakes on the bumper corners keep the engine cool and running. How can you miss those muscular creases on the bonnet and sleek LED headlights with distinct LED DRLs? The lighting units are connected via a chrome strip that passes via an illuminated Chery badge.

The side profile is no less with its clean, crisp contour line running from the front gate towards the tail light. The chrome trim around the window and on the door adds to the car’s premium look and feel. The multi-stroke alloy wheels only add to the sedan’s luxe looks.
The rear is no less with the wrap-around two-piece tail lights connected via a full-width light bar. Other highlighting bits at the back include a bonnet spoiler, faux air outlet, two exhaust tailpipes, and Chery script on the black piece trim.

Chery Arrizo 8: Cabin

The pictures reveal the Arrizo 8 spacious, wrapped in best-quality material (light-coloured wood, leather, and metal trims) with advanced features, the kind of a car. It comes equipped with a dual 12.3-inch screen (one-half is the instrument cluster and other infotainment systems), slim air-con vents that seem connected via a curious graphic, and a broad central tunnel. The latter seems to get a wireless charging pad, gearbox, drive-mode rotating dial, and central armrest with storage space.

The door handles need a specific mention, as we have never seen such beautiful metal units on a Chinese car.

Chery Arrizo 8: Safety

Though not explicitly mentioned, the sedan is expected to come equipped with advanced driver assistance systems and several active and passive safety features.

Chery Arrizo 8: Price

Chery Arrizo 8 is expected to go for around 140,000 yuan (approx. RM 93,312).
