Check out the all-new Mercedes-AMG 63 S E PERFORMANCE
KUALA LUMPUR: Mercedes has finally revealed the much anticipated plug-in hybrid version of the AMG GT 4 door. It will obviously be a stand against the Porsche Panamera S E-Hybrid and the fight between the two would be amazing.
The AMG GT 63 S E Performance will sit on top of the automaker's GT 4 door lineup, the same as its Porsche counterpart.
What about the power?
While its Porsche buddy makes do with 671 bhp, the AMG 63 S E Performance power figure rests at 831 bhp and 1,470 Nm of torque! Yes, these figures are right, no mistake whatsoever.
The luxury four-door car is able to churn out such astounding figures thanks to the usual AMG 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 that is clubbed with an electric motor and F1 -inspired high-performance battery.
The folks at Affalterbach have adopted the P3 hybrid layout for the GT 63 S E PERFORMANCE. It means the electric motor sits on the rear axle and the battery is above it.
Speaking of the battery, the 6.1 kWh unit weighs 89 kg and as per the automaker has ‘twice the power density of conventional drive batteries’. Furthermore, it has been designed to provide fast power delivery and maximum regeneration. So, it'll only do around 12 km on electric power alone with a max of 831 bhp available for wheels always.
There's also optimised weight distribution, the direct battery cooling deploys a non-conductive liquid coolant that flows to all 560 cells individually, making sure the EV power is never compromised.
Coming to the transmission setup. While the V8 mill is still paired to a 9-speed dual shift gearbox, the electric motor sends power to the rear wheel via a 2-speed gearbox and an electronically controlled limited-slip diff. In case the rear begins to slip, the 4MATIC+ all-wheel-drive system steals some power for the front wheels.
On the performance front, the E PERFORMANCE completes the century sprint in just 2.9 seconds before achieving a top speed of 315 kmph.
What else?
- New front and rear bumper with an integrated charging port
- E Performance badge on the wings
- AMG's RIDE CONTROL+ air suspension & ceramic brakes
- Hybrid-specific display on the inside
- Optional rear-seat screen
- Seven drive modes (Electric, Comfort, RACE, Sport, Sport+,
- Individual, and Slippery)
- AMG DYNAMICS system with four sittings (Basic, Master, Pro, and Advanced)
That's all about the E PERFORMANCE, any thoughts?
