Brabus Mercedes-Benz GLB flaunts style and power
KUALA LUMPUR: Slotting into the narrow space between the GLC-class and the GLA-class is the new Mercedes-Benz GLB-class. The SUV comes with impressive standard technology and can be optioned with even more tech and luxury features. While an official AMG 35 version of the SUV is already on its way, Brabus brings a twist on the tale. The German tuner has come up with a suite of tuning products for the boxy crossover.
Brabus redefines the aerodynamic-enhancement, suspension, wheels, engine tuning, and interior of the new GLB-Class. Although it is not a monster like creation, it still packs some unique looks and real performance gains. Let’s get into the details.
The modified GLB received a chunky body kit that actually sets it apart from the standard one. It features a new two-part front spoiler and new side air intakes. There is a roof rack with two LED modules connected to the SUV’s high beams. At the rear end, retuned GLB has a duck-tail spoiler and Brabus wheels at all four corners. The 10-spoke wheels are available in 18-, 19-, and 20-inch sizes, and wrapped in either Pirelli, Continental, or Yokohama rubber.
The tuner also developed sport springs for the 4MATIC versions of the GLB-Class specifically for sporty low-profile tyres. The ride-height lowering by about 30 mm also benefits the looks of the car. However, Brabus also offers an alternative for those GLB owners who like to drive their vehicle off-road; springs for the all-wheel-drive that raise the ride height of the SUV by about 35 mm as compared to the production level.
Under the bonnet, the added performance kit lifted the power of the 2.0-litre engine from 224 PS and 350 Nm of torque to 270 PS and 430 Nm. In this form, the 0-100 kmph takes 6.6 seconds, and top speed is 240 kmph.
Brabus also offers refinement options for interior appointments. It includes anodized aluminum scuff plates with the Brabus logo, backlit in 64 colors in synchronization with the ambient lighting, and matte anodized Brabus aluminum pedals. Moreover, it features high-quality floor mats with the Brabus logo and a matching Brabus trunk mat.
This is not the first time when Brabus modified a Mercedes model; rather the tuner holds a good reputation of adding outlandish aftermarket flair to the Mercs, including Mercedes-AMG A 35, X-Class ute, and G-Class off-roader.
