Borgward returning with BX5 in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: The Borgward name is to make a comeback with a fresh new look for the 21st century, in the hands of the founder’s grandson. The Borgward now returns with a brand new lineup of Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs) and with more interesting models for the future. And as another milestone in its comeback party, Borgward is also officially coming to Malaysia. Borgward showcased its BX5 and BX7 SUVs at the Malaysia Autoshow earlier this year.

Borgward Group is continuing to pursue its escalation policy with the official launch of the Borgward BX5 in China. The new Borgward BX5 will provide crucial momentum to the growth of the renowned group. At the sales launch held in the Chinese capital Beijing, Ulrich Walker, CEO of Borgward Group AG had said that the customers would be thrilled by the vehicle’s impressive level of quality and comprehensive range of services, warranties, and its attractive pricing

Having a length of 4.48 meters and a wheelbase of 2.68 meters, the Borgward BX5 blends the qualities of classic SUVs such as great versatility and superior comfort with an unparalleled amount of space for a vehicle of this class. It is further backed by the brand’s typically comprehensive range of online infotainment.

The BX5 is a mid-sized SUV with a 1.8-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine making 190 PS of maximum power and 280 Nm of peak torque. The SUV also features an all-wheel drive and automatic transmissions. The Chinese market is also offered with a smaller 1.4-litre turbo option (150 PS and 250 Nm). In terms of size, the BX5 measures 4,490 mm long, 1,877 mm wide and 1,675 mm tall, with a 2,685 mm-long wheelbase.

Local specifications are yet to be confirmed, and more information will likely come around only when the car will be officially launched. As per reports, the BX5 will be tentatively priced under the RM 100k mark and that it will be a locally-assembled (CKD) model.
