BMW Z4: What we like

BMW Malaysia lineup included the Z4 Roadster way back in 2019. Back then it was a highly anticipated model and was showcased on several occasions. The Z4 is a popular mode among topless, sports car lovers. And here are a few things that we like about this two-seater, front-engined, rear-wheel BMW.

So, let's get started -

Driving-experience

The BMW Z4 is available in one single variant option in Malaysia, i.e., sDrive30 M Sport. It is powered by a 2.0-litre B48 four-pot that pumps out a maximum power of 258 hp along with a peak torque of 400 Nm. The drive is sent to the rear wheels through a ZF 8-speed automatic gearbox and it completes the century sprint in just 5.4 seconds, after attaining a top speed of 250 kmph.

We must say the collaboration with Toyota has allowed BMW to focus on the Z4's sporting characteristics. The heavy folding metal roof was ditched for a lightweight soft top and around 26 mm was out of the wheelbase, thus calling for greater agility. Also, BMW has used several aluminium components that reduce its unsprung weight.

In addition, it gets a double-jointed MacPherson strut front suspension and a five-link setup at the rear. Overall its rigid suspension and subframe mounting at the rear improve handling and steering precision.

Impressive standard kit

Another reason why we like the Z4 Roadster is for its massive standard kit which includes several features ranging from its exterior, interior, and safety too. The list includes -

  • LED headlights with auto high beam
  • 18-inch Style 798 M two-tone alloy wheels
  • Keyless entry & push-button start
  • Power-adjustable M Sport seats with memory
  • Leather upholstery
  • Live Cockpit Professional system with twin 10.25-inch displays
  • Dual-zone climate control
  • 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system
  • Wireless phone charging
  • Aluminium trim
  • M Sport suspension
  • Variable Sport Steering
  • Intelligent Parking Assistant with a Reversing Assist
  • Reverse camera

The roadster also gets a BMW Digital Key that enables the driver to lock/unlock and even operate the car via an Android smartphone with Near Field Communication (NFC) technology. This Digital Key can be shared between five people, thanks to the BMW Connected App.

Furthermore, customers can add more features from the ConnectedDrive store.

Wait, there's more. With a 50 percent SST reduction, the Z4 retails for RM 469,510 on-the-road without insurance. The price tag includes a 5-year Unlimited Mileage Warranty, BMW Tyre Warranty Programme, and Free Scheduled Service Programme.

Impressive exterior & interior hues

Sure the BMW Z4 looks great in any colour you paint it in, but the ones offered by the automaker are selected carefully to suit the roadster's personality. The options include - Alpine White, San Francisco Red, Glacier Silver, Misano Blue, and Black Sapphire.

Customers can combine these exterior tones with any of the three given interior colour options which include - Cognac with black stitching, black decor with black stitching, and Magma Red with black stitching.

A welcome suite of active safety features

It was only recently that the Z4 benefited from additional safety gears. Part of the kit now is autonomous emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, and lane departure warning.

Its rest of the safety profile remains the same as before with - dual front airbags, side airbags for driver & passenger, central locking with electronic immobiliser & crash sensor, dynamic braking lights with flashing function, Dynamic Stability Control including Anti-lock Braking System with Brake Assist, and Dynamic Brake Control, Roll-over protection system, M Sport brake with blue painted brake callipers with 'M' designation, and flat tyre indicator.

Impressive isn’t it? Let us know what do you think of the BMW Z4 roadster in the comments.
