BMW M’s 50th-anniversary celebration planning in full swing

KUALA LUMPUR: BMW M brand is approaching its 50th anniversary next week and the automaker and OEMs globally are celebrating the occasion in their own special ways. And today we’ll be shedding light on some of the most interesting celebrations awaiting our way.

Starting with Malaysia, BMW Malaysia will offer exclusive BMW M merchandise to the owners of the most exclusive M models (one winner per series). Also, the winning cars will be part of a feature by BMW Group Malaysia. More details about participation are shared at the end.

Next up, BMW is paying tribute to the M band with a special livery for the M4 GT3 at the Nurburgring 24-Hour race. The half-century celebratory car will showcase the classic M tones (blue, violet, and red) along with a modern and dynamic design. The car also benefits from a special foil treatment that makes the M logo and the number 50 glow in the dark at the 24-hour race.

This summer’s Goodwill Festival of Speed will also be paying its tribute to the BMW M brand jointly with the automaker. The anniversary celebration will be commemorated by a giant sculpture showcasing some of the brand’s most iconic cars. The said artwork will be placed at Goodwood House’s front lawn. In addition, the 2022 M3 Touring is also scheduled for a world premiere here.

Last but not the least, the BMW XM will make its world premiere alongside the BMW M brand's 50th anniversary. Which obviously is a well-thought co-incidence.The upcoming BMW XM features the first M Hybrid Drive System making it yet another high-performing hybrid.

Coming back to BMW Malaysia’s celebration. The automaker is calling out for BMW M brand owners, as it is looking for the oldest model in every series in the country. So, if you have an old BMW M model parked at home, visit the BMW Malaysia’s website and do the needful. Submissions will close on 8th June.

List of cars that will qualify for participation are -

• The M1, made its debut in 1978 & is limited to just 456 units
• The M3, made its debut in 1986,it is the most iconic BMW M vehicles
• The M5, premiered in 1985, it is yet another legendary car
• The M635CSi, one of the most significant models in the history of BMW M

In addition to all the above legendary cars, the current M models (M2, M3, M4, X5M, X3M) will also be celebrated to commemorate the occasion.
