BMW Malaysia debuts all-new XM; check full details

KUALA LUMPUR: Great news for auto enthusiasts, as BMW Malaysia, unveiled the first-ever XM in the local market. It is the first standalone M model since the iconic M1 and also the first M car powered by a plug-in hybrid powertrain.

Scheduled for a June 2023 launch, the XM’s series production began last December at the US BMW Group Spartanburg facility. Now, let’s get to know the first electrified BMW M GmbH high-performance SAV in detail.

Price

The all-new BMW XM is priced at RM 1,398,800 (on the road without insurance).

Powertrain configuration

As mentioned, the XM is the first M series model to get a plug-in hybrid engine. It runs on a combination of an internal combustion engine and an electric motor. The former is an all-new 4.4-litre M TwinPower Turbo V8 mill making a maximum power of 489 hp along with a peak torque of 650 Nm. As for the e-motor, it not only adds an extra edge to the car’s M performance aura but also enhances efficiency.

The total system output rests at 653 hp and 800 Nm of torque. The drive is sent to the wheels via an 8-speed Steptronic Sport automatic transmission.

Performance

The BMW XM completes the century sprint in just 4.3 seconds and the top speed is capped at 250 kmph. However, with the M Driver’s package, it goes up to 270 kmph and the electronic top speed is limited to 140 kmph. On electric power alone, the XM can travel up to 88 km.

Part of the package is several gears that add to the car’s capability and versatility. Some of them are -

The all-new BMW XM benefits from M Aerodynamic Package and M High Gloss Shadow Line profile with Extended Contents. Also part of the package is

• A large kidney grille with hallmark M horizontal double louvers with illuminated contours
  two power domes on the bonnet
• Split lighting units with modules for DRLs and low/high beams each
• A sloping roofline
• A night gold-colored trim strip running parallel to the window line
