KUALA LUMPUR: BMW has given the 4 Series lineup a mid-cycle refresh, introducing a host of subtle yet significant styling updates and a few technological advancements, elevating the overall aesthetics and driving experience of this iconic series.

The production of the updated 4 Series range will commence at the BMW Group Dingolfing plant in March 2024 with deliveries set to begin later this year.All four models - BMW 4 Series Coupé, 4 Series Convertible, M4 Coupé, and M4 Convertible are equipped with newly designed headlights that feature a more technically focused look. Adaptive LED Headlights with non-dazzling matrix high beams and new Laserlight rear lights are also available as an option. Three new 19-inch light-alloy wheel designs, including M light-alloy wheels and BMW Individual light-alloy wheels, are added to the personalization options.
Buyers also have the choice to select the M Sport package, incorporating enhancements like a black high-gloss diffuser element at the rear bumper, an enlarged exhaust pipe diameter from 90mm to 100mm, and newly designed black high-gloss exhaust pipes. The colour palette comprises two solid and eight metallic hues, including new additions like Cape York Green metallic and Fire Red metallic.
The interior welcomes the new BMW Curved Display and BMW iDrive with QuickSelect system based on the new BMW Operating System 8.5. Among the other cabin revisions are - a redesigned steering wheel with light-up functionality, standard-fitted sports seats, and new seat coverings. Crafted clarity glass applications for selected controls, an Augmented View display for the BMW Maps navigation system, and interior trim accents in Aluminium Rhombicle Anthracite are also available as options on the new BMW 4 Series.
In terms of engine options, the six-cylinder model benefits from a 48V mild hybrid system. The available petrol trims include - 420i with a 4-cylinder turbo generating 184 hp and 300 Nm, the 430i xDrive featuring a 4-cylinder turbo with 245 hp and 400 Nm, and the M440i xDrive, a 6-cylinder mild hybrid delivering 374 hp and 500 Nm. All are equipped with an 8-speed automatic transmission mated to a rear-wheel drive system in the 420i and 430i and xDrive all-wheel drive on the M440i.
The M4 version comes in three iterations. The first is the M4 coupe, powered by a 3.0-litre inline-6 TwinPower Turbo mill tuned to deliver 480 hp and 550 Nm. The next is the M4 Competition which gets energy from an uprated version of the same mill generating 530 hp and 650 Nm. At the top of the ladder sits the M4 Competition with M xDrive, which, although equipped with the same engine as the lower model, sends the grunt to all four wheels.
