Audi Sport Nogaro Edition models pay tribute to the 1994 RS2 Avant

KUALA LUMPUR: To pay homage to the original 1994 RS2 Avant, Audi has introduced five limited Nogaro Edition models. The five models included - the TT RS Coupe, RS6 Avant, RS5 Coupe, RS4 Avant, and RS5 Sportback. These limited-edition models are limited to the UK market and Audi is offering five units each, i.e., a total of 25 cars. The highlight here is that all the models will feature the RS2’s hero colour - Nogaro Blue. It is the second time the RS6 is spayed in this striking hue, remember December 2020 unveiled 25 units limited RS6 Avant ‘RS Tribute edition’.

Let’s get into the details, starting with the exterior bit. The RS4 and RS5 will get a set of five-arm flag style wheels, while the TT RS will feature a set of seven-spoke 20-inch rotor design wheels. The RS6 Avant benefits from the biggest set of wheels in the group of five, it runs on 22-inch units. All five models benefit from RS brake calipers.

Other styling bits include a gloss black Audi ring, matte aluminium front spoiler, wing mirror caps, side sills, gloss black RS badge, rear diffuser inserts, and blacked-out twin oval exhaust tips.

On the inside, all five models feature Nappa leather or Valcona leather seats with Denim blue stitching and Alcantara finish on the steering and gear knob. Audi has also added a Comfort and Sound kit for these limited-edition cars, it includes Advanced Key access, Bang & Olufsen audio system, and a 360-degree camera system. A hands-free electric tailgate is also part of the offerings.

Under the hood, the Audi Nogaro Edition models see no changes and they settle for aesthetic upgrades. The RS2 was powered by a 2.2-litre inline-five turbo mill that pumps out a maximum power of 315 PS and a peak torque of 410 Nm at 3,100 rpm. The power is sent to all four wheels via a 6-speed manual gearbox with a permanent Quattro all-wheel-drive system. On the performance front, it covers the century distance in 4.8 seconds and has a top speed of 262 kmph. Compared to today’s cars, these figures are still competitive.

Enough about the Sport Nogaro Edition models, let’s now discuss the car it’s all about, the RS6 Avant. It was co-developed with Porsche who was responsible for assembling the estate at its Rossle-Bau factory in Zuffenhausen, Germany. Around 2,200 units of the RS2 Avant were manufactured, however, due to high demand, the final figure rested at 2891 cars. Out of the total, only 180 RS2 Avant were right-hand models.
