Audi Grand Sphere Concept to unveil at 2021 Munich Motor Show
KUALA LUMPUR: Earlier this month, Audi previewed the sketches of the three new concept cars that it will be introducing over the next 12 months. The new concepts are dubbed as the Grand Sphere, Sky Sphere, and Urban Sphere and these will underpin the brand’s forthcoming project Artemis electric vehicle platform. Now the luxury carmaker gave us a clearer look at the upcoming Grand Sphere concept.
In the more prominent teaser, the Audi Grand Sphere concept looks like an an-electric version of the Audi A7 Sportback. As the German automaker already declared its plans of phasing out the ICE-powered cars, this could be the model of the post-ICE era. The company aims to be a pure electric car brand by 2033.
The new teaser images reveal the futuristic exterior design of the upcoming model that features swooping lines and a flat front fascia with a wide front grille. And as we have seen on the previously revealed sketches, the car will have a long hood paired with a curvy shoulder line. Being an electric car, it would not have many front overhangs that will add to its aerodynamic efficiency.
During an online presentation last week, Audi’s head of exterior design, Philip Römers said, “The Grand Sphere is clearly much closer to reality [than the Audi Aicon concept>. Around the year 2025, we want to have a new offering in the upper luxury segment – and the Grand Sphere is definitely an outlook on that.”
The teaser also showcases the car’s interior, which looks spacious with a two-seater configuration and extremely comfortable, especially for the driver. As per Audi, it will offer Level 4 self-driving capabilities, which will let the EV do the driving when the driver leans back in certain conditions.
The car’s driving console gets an octagonal-shaped steering wheel in place of conventional circular design. It is teamed up with a large single display running across the car’s width, which will act as both the instrument cluster and a touchscreen infotainment system. Besides, we can also spot a plant placed at the centre armrest, which indicates the environment-friendly nature of Audi’s upcoming EV.
The Audi Grand Sphere concept is set to make its global debut at the Munich Motor Show taking place in September this year.
