Any guess on how much the Proton X50 would cost?
KUALA LUMPUR: For a while now we know that Proton is soon going to introduce a new car in its lineup, probably a crossover. Though the company is yet to confirm anything, however, since Proton trademarked several names including X50, there is nothing stopping the assumptions. Another element adding to the stories around a new Proton is the introduction of Geely’s latest crossover that was launched during the same time frame as the registration of the trademarks. Adding to the recipe is the Proton-Geely partnership wherein the two brands share cars. Thus, bringing us to the conclusion that the Proton X50 would be a rebadged Geely Bin Yue.
We have already covered a story around what to expect from Proton X50? Check out for great insights. Here we are takings our assumption skills a notch higher and are guessing the Proton’s upcoming crossover’s price tag. This we will be done by evaluating the car’s specs and taking clues from Proton current lineup price range.
Starting with discussing Proton X50’s specs that are expected to be the same as the Geely Bin Yue -
- The crossover would sit on Geely’s BMA architecture
Its dimension sheet would read 4,330 mm in length, 1,800 mm in width, and 1,609 mm in height. The wheelbase would measure 2,600 mm - A total of 68.7 percent of wheelbase would be utilised for the cabin, thus providing for a spacious and comfortable seating position
- The X50 is most likely to be powered by a 1.5-litre direct injection turbo petrol mill that is co-developed by Volvo. It churns out a maximum power of 177 PS along with apeak torque of 255 Nm
- The same mill on the Binyue covers the 0 to 100 kmph mark in 7.9 seconds and is paired to a 7-speed wet dual-clutch gearbox
- As for the fuel economy figure, the 1.5-litre mill displays a combined fuel economy figure of 16.39 kmpl on city/highway
- The safety specs sheet is expected to get features like L2 autonomous driving, and automated parking at the push of a button. The unique 360° Safety Circle combines the latest generation ESC electronic stability system, BSD blind spot detection system, a unique AEB-P automatic emergency braking system with pedestrian recognition, HD driving recorder, 360° HD imaging system, TPMS intelligent tire temperature, pressure monitoring system, and more
The above list looks quite impressive, giving us a hint that with all these features, the X50 would surely range between RM 80,000 to RM 95,000. Also, seeing the Proton’s lineup, the car would be slotted below the X70 and so will be its price tag. Thus, making it clear that the car’s top-variant won’t cross the RM 99,800 price tag.
