Alpina XB7 confirmed for May 19 debut

KUALA LUMPUR: Alpina recently introduced the D3 sedan and wagon, and now we hear the BMW specialist is preparing for another significant debut. The Buchloe based manufacturer is now adding the X7 to its lineup by introducing the XB7 for which it even has a dedicated website as well. Called the first-class-adventurers.com, the site currently shows the countdown for the high-performance SUV’s reveal.

The official reveal of the Alpina XB7 is scheduled for May 19, so the wait is nearly over. The news didn’t come out as a surprise, as the prototypes undergoing testing were seen multiple times. In July 2019, Alpina’s CEO, in a talk with motor1.com said,"the XB7 would be great for America. Therefore, XB7 will first arrive in the United States".

Alpina is tight-lipped about any detail concerning the car. However, the BX7 moniker clearly hints towards a gasoline-powered powertrain. There might be a DX7 running on the devil’s fuel for the European market, but we’ll have to wait and see. As for the gasoline-powered model, expect it to be based on the X7 M50i powered by a 523 hp churning 4.4-litre V8 mill.

The Alpina X7 M substitute should offer somewhere around 600 hp for a price that will be over and above the $99,600 tag that BMW asks for the range-topping model. The Alpina variant will feature distinguishing elements like 20-inch alloy wheels and a subtle body kit. Also, like other BMW cars tweaked by Alpina, suspension and chassis upgrades are on the cards. Also, expect revised brakes and modification to the automatic transmission to handle the power bump.

In the future, the Alpina lineup can grow further as a high-performance version of the 8 Series Gran Coupe is on the to-do list. The company might also try its hand on an electrified BMW, but it is not a priority at the moment.
