All-new Volkswagen Golf facelift teased; debut next year
KUALA LUMPUR: Volkswagen is all set to introduce the all-new Golf facelift in 2024. Before the official reveal, the German automaker fueled the anticipation by officially teasing the upcoming hatchback during a video looking back on the brand’s highlights from 2023.

The shadowy teaser reveals the new front fascia of the 2024 Volkswagen Golf MK8 previewing new headlamps reminiscent of the brand’s ID lineup, an illuminated Volkswagen badge, and an LED bar positioned above the slim grille.
No other official details are yet available; however, the spy shots of the upcoming model testing on international roads suggest a few more changes. The cosmetic tweaks will be focussed mainly on the front with the rest of the bodywork remaining the same. The cabin is expected to gain a much larger free-standing infotainment unit, improved fit and finish, and new tech features.
In terms of mechanicals, the 2024 Golf facelift is likely to carry forward the existing options with a great emphasis on the improved plug-in hybrid configuration. The upcoming model will be offered in performance-focussed GTI and R variants globally.
Make note, that the upcoming iteration will keep the Golf MK8 relevant for a few more years as the ninth-generation Golf MK9 will see the light of day by the end of 2030. The automaker has confirmed that the next generation Golf will be electric and based on the new SSP architecture. It will be produced at the company’s Wolfsburg plant in Germany.
Volkswagen Golf MK8 in Malaysia
In Malaysia, the eighth-generation Volkswagen Golf is currently offered with two variants - Golf GTI and Golf R, priced at RM 244,990 and RM 330,000, respectively. The former is powered by a 2.0-litre TSI turbocharged inline-four petrol engine delivering 245 PS of maximum power and 370 Nm of peak torque while the latter’s 2.0-litre TSI turbo mill is tuned to deliver 320 PS and 400 Nm.
