All-new sixth-generation Nissan Serena unveiled in Japan
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s popular MPV, the Nissan Serena, has received a generation upgrade in the home ground. In its latest form, the three-row people hauler boasts an aggressive exterior, a more spacious cabin, and a plethora of tech-based features. The all-new sixth-gen Nissan Serena price in Japan starts at JPY 2,768,700 (approximately equal to RM 90,111).Talking about the exterior first, the new Japanese MPV benefits from the brand’s latest design language with a more sculpted bodywork and a new V-motion grille bracketed with full LED headlights. Also part of the exterior kit is more pronounced bumpers, vertically-positioned LED tail lights, automatic sliding passenger doors, large windows, and stylish rims. A dual tailgate is also provided for convenient unloading in tight spaces.
The MPV retains its boxy shape in the latest version and measures 4,690 mm in length, 1,695 mm in width, and 1,885 mm in height. The wheelbase is measured at 2,870 mm.
Getting inside, where the Nissan engineers have put the most effort. The new MPV has an extra 120 mm of driver legroom along with a middle seat in the second row making it an 8-seater. Among the other key inclusions are -

To reduce motion sickness in the cabin, the automaker utilises some science-based solutions while making the MPV. These include the widest windscreen, a new position of the cockpit, a new seat design that dampens movement, a tighter suspension, a rigid steering wheel for better handling, cross-wind deflecting vehicle structure, and an e-pedal step offering better control of the vehicle speed.
As for safety, the MPV is packed with several airbags and the upgraded ProPILOT 2.0 suite, which offers hands-free driving as well as remote parking over and above the standard systems.
Under the hood of the new Nissan Serena lies either a 2.0-litre naturally-aspirated petrol mill generating 150 hp of maximum power and 200 Nm of peak torque or a hybrid setup featuring a 98 hp/123 Nm 1.4-litre ICE paired with an electric motor, combinedly making 163 hp and 315 Nm.
The sixth-gen Nissan Serena will go on sale in Japan later this year at a starting price of JPY 2,768,700 (approximately equal to RM 90,111).
