All-new MG HS SUV debuts at Goodwood Festival of Speed

KUALA LUMPUR: MG has unveiled the second generation HS SUV at the recently concluded 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed. As one of the brand’s best-selling models in the home market, the upgraded HS is set to woo customers with its upgraded package.

Exterior

The 2025 MG HS boasts a more sophisticated design with refined exterior proportions, shorter overhangs, and a rising shoulder line. It measures 4,655 mm in length, 1,890 mm in width, and 1,634 mm in height. Compared to the outgoing model, the new HS is 45 mm longer, 14 mm wider, and 30 mm shorter (due to the sleek new profile). The wheelbase has been extended by 45 mm to 2,765 mm.

The revamped SUV features a new front grille, slimmer headlights, and a new central black panel adding a modern touch. Also new for the 2025 model year are X-shaped LED tail lights with a connecting light strip and new wheels.

Interior

On the inside, the new HS gains two new prominent high-definition displays for the infotainment unit and instrument cluster measuring 12.3 inches each. The upgraded infotainment system offers live navigation services with weather and live traffic updates and supports Amazon Music, as well as Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone connectivity.  

The new 12.3-inch driver display, on the other hand, comes with light and dark themes along with three distinct modes - Map, Digital, and ADAS.

The SUV also comes kitted with a wireless smartphone charging, a new 360° surround view camera, new quality materials with premium highlights, a new three-spoke steering wheel, and a modern, shuttle-style gear shifter, 6-way power-adjustable driver seat, air conditioning, keyless entry, electric parking brake with auto-hold function, and an 8-speaker audio system. The boot capacity has been increased by 44 litres to 507 litres.

Engine

MG offers the new HS in two engine options - 

• A new-generation 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine producing 169 PS of maximum power and 275 Nm of peak torque. It comes mated to either a 6-speed MT or a 7-speed DCT. 
• A plug-in hybrid setup combining a 142 PS 1.5-litre petrol engine and a 209 PS electric motor. It is paired with a 24.7kWh battery pack, offering an all-electric range of 120 km.

The new HS is equipped with an enhanced MG Pilot package, including the following advanced safety gears -

• Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning System
• Blind Spot Detection with Lane Change Assist
• Driver Attention Alert
• Forward Collision Warning
• Rear Cross Traffic Alert
• Door Open Warning
• Adaptive Cruise Control
• Traffic Jam Assist
• Intelligent Speed Limit Assist

Upon introducing the second-gen MG HS, David Allison, Head of Product and Planning at MG Motor UK said, “The outgoing HS SUV has been immensely popular. The all-new 2025 MG HS is expected to hit the UK showrooms later this month.
