All-new Megane RS 280 Cup launched in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: The all-new Renault Megane RS 280 has arrived in Malaysia, it would be available in two transmission option - manual and Efficient Dual Clutch - both with front-wheel drive and 6-speeds.

New Renault Megane RS 280 Cup with manual setup would retail for RM 279,888, while the one with EDC costs RM 20,000 more, i.e., RM 299,888. Note, these prices are on-the-road with insurance and include 3-year or 100,000 km warranty.

The car will be offered in several color options - Diamond Black, Pearl White (for additional RM 1000), RS signature shade Liquide Yellow, Orange two. The later two are available at an RM 8000 premium.

The car is based on the 4th-gen Megane hatch model and is offered in the five-door configuration. It is powered by a small-displacement 1.8-litre 4-cylinder turbo petrol engine that pumps out a maximum power of 280 PS along with a peak torque of 390 Nm. Though the engine capacity is reduced, the 1.8-litre unit when compared to the 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbo mill has the upper hand in output, and this’s true even for the RS 275 Trophy-R model. With the given configuration, the Megane RS 250 Cup can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 5.8 seconds and has a top speed of 250 kmph (auto) and 255 kmph (manual).

The latest Renault car features more track-focused chassis with a Torsen limited-slip differential, and rally-style hydraulic compression bump stops. While the standard 4Control four-wheel steering system provides better agility, the revised front suspension with an independent steering axis calls for improved precision.

Braking duty is handled by red-painted Brembo brake calipers that measure 355 mm at the front, i.e., 15 mm more compared to the previous-gen model.

The car comes fitted with Renault’s Multi-Sense system that offers the driver five driving modes - Normal, Comfortable, Race, Sport, and Perso. In the EDC-equipped version, launch control and Multi-Change Down functions are available in Race and Sport modes.
