All-new 2023 Subaru WRX launched in Malaysia; available in wagon & sedan body styles

KUALA LUMPUR: Subaru Malaysia has a new model in its lineup, the all-new 2023 WRX. Now, in its fifth generation, the car was recently put on display at the Motor Image showroom located at Petaling Jaya.

Now that we have the new WRX in town it’s time to know it better and see what all it has to offer. So, let’s get started with variants, price, powertrain, and other details.

Variants & Price: The fully-imported Subaru will be offered in two modes and three trims. The line-up includes -

WRX Sedan 6MT	RS 286,245
WRX Sedan CVT EyeSight	Est. RM 296,245
Wrx Wagon CVT GT-S EyeSight	Est. RM 285,245

Note the prices mentioned above are on-the-road without insurance and include a 5-year/100,00 km warranty.

Platform: The new WRX is offered in two body styles, sedan and wagon. Both of which are built on the Subaru Global Platform (SGP).

Powertrain: Under the hood lies a 2.4-litre flat-four turbocharged petrol engine generating a maximum power of 275 PS at 5,600 rpm along with a peak torque of 375 Nm from 2,000 to 5,200 rpm.

As for an STI version, we do not expect it to follow any time soon.

Transmission: The drive is transmitted to the wheels via a six-speed manual transmission and the setup comes with the brand's Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and Active Torque Vectoring systems as standard.

Buyers can even have the WRX with a revised CVT as the Subaru Performance Transmission that offers 30% faster upshift and 50% faster downshifts between the second and third virtual gears.

Design: The new WRXs black body cladding which actually serves an aerodynamic purpose reminds us of the 2017 Viziv Performance Concept.

At the front, the car showcases a bonnet scoop, a hexagonal grille, an rugged front bumper, sharp, steering-responsive LED headlights with LED DRLs (doubles as turn indicators), and LED fog lamps. At the rear are present C-shaped taillights and a lower apron with a prominent diffuser. The car drives on massive 18-inch wheels.

Interior: The new WRX inviting cabin is both comforting and stocked with connectivity features. Part of the kit is - a Starlink infotainment system supported by a massive 11.6-inch touchscreen display, Apple CarPlay & Android Auto support, a dual-zone climate control system, and a 4.2-inch multi-info display. The car also gets a leather-wrapped steering wheel, manual front seats, and keyless entry & engine start.

Safety: The new Subaru WRX packs a bucket load of safety features including seven airbags and an array of passive safety features.
