All-new 2022 Proton Exora: Variant explained

It was only last week that Proton Malaysia launched the all-new Exora MPV in the local market. The prospective car buyers are pretty excited about the latest arrival that comes with several updates, thus making the seven-seater MPV all the more in line with the needs of today’s urban youth.

As already mentioned in Exora’s launch story, the MPV is offered in two variant options - entry-level Executive and range-topping Premium opinion. The two are priced at RM 62,800 and RM 69,800 respectively. However, with not-much significant price difference customers tend to get confused as to which trim is picked. In this article, we attempt to expand to two variants in debt, thus helping buyers to pick the best option.

So, let’s get started and see what the two Proton Exora variants have to offer.

Price

Exora 1.6T Executive CVT

RM 62,800

Exora 1.6T Premium CVT

RM 69,800

Each purchase is accompanied by a 5-year/150,000 km warranty, a 5-year data package (1GB/month), and three free labour services.

Dimensions

Proton’s seven-seater MPV measures 4615 mm in length, 1809 mm in width, and 1691 mm in height. Its wheelbase stretches to 2730 mm, thus assuring a spacious cabin with ample legroom for all passengers.

The car rides on suitable and massive 16-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 205/55 R16 tyres.

Powertrain

Both variants of Proton’s latest MPV are powered by a 1561cc 4-cylinder in-line, 16 valve DOHC, VVT Turbo mill that generates a maximum power of 140 PS at 5,000 rpm along with a peak torque of 205 Nm from 2,000 - 4,000 rpm. The drive is sent to the wheels via a continuous variable transmission (CVT).

Braking & Handling

Braking

Front: Ventilated disc; Rear: Solid Disc

Suspension

Front: MacPherson Strut with stabilizer bar; Rear: Torsion Beam

The above-mentioned specs remain common for both variants.

Exterior

The new Exora showcases an extraordinary design language that makes the Exora look modern and stylish, all at once.

The entry-level Executive variant comes equipped with halogen headlamps along with Proton’s latest logo resting on the front grille. The side profile gets door mirrors with turn signal lamps with manual fold function. The rear also showcases the new brand logo on the tailgate and long vertical taillights.

The range-topping Exora over and above the above-mentioned features get LED daytime running lights, electric door mirrors with turn indicators, and side skirting & rear garnish that gives the MPV an extra edge.

Interior

The Exora MPV can comfortably sit seven individuals and its flexible seating configuration apt to fit one's everyday needs perfectly. Farthing making it the perfect everyday car is its rear trunk that offers practicality and luxury of space for the long haul.

The base trim gets a urethane steering wheel, fabric upholstery, 2nd-row armrest, air-con system with N95 cabin filter, and standard audio system with Bluetooth connectivity and 4 speakers. The 2nd and 3rd-row air-con vents ensure perfect cooling for everyone in the car. The two USB ports assure the passengers and driver’s electronic devices never lose charge.

The range-topping Exora packs a leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel, cruise control, leather seat upholstery, and armrest for front & 2nd-row seats. One of the most exciting inclusions of all is a 7-inch touchscreen monitor with voice command, online navigation, online music streaming, smartphone connectivity, 4G, and Wi-Fi.

The above-mentioned voice command function gets activated by the user by just saying ‘Hi Proton’ which gains them control over navigation, communication, and several entertainment options.

Safety

Both the 2022 Exora variants benefit from two SRS airbags and electronic stability control. Other standard safety bits include an anti-lock braking system, electronic brake distribution, emergency stop signal, two rear parking sensors, an immobilizer & anti-theft alarm.

The range Premium variant, however, benefits from a reverse camera that makes parking in thigh spots super easy.

Colour options

Both the Exora variants are available in five colour options for the customers to choose from, namely Snow White, Indiana Grey, Rosewood Maroon, Ruby Red, and Cocoa Grey.

Conclusion

Both the 2022 Exora variants are more or less the same with the coming powertrain, colour scheme, and chassis. The key difference between the two comes in the form of a few cosmetic upgrades on the outside, and connectivity features on the inside. Not to forget the presence of a reverse camera.

So, the buyer can easily go for the base Executive trim without the fear of losing out on essential features. However, ones who like their car a bit fancy can opt for the Premium model with LED lights, a 7-inch touchscreen, leather upholstery, and a reverse camera.
