All-new 2022 Chery Tiggo 7 Pro is coming soon to Malaysia; here’s what we know so far

Chery has big and ambitious plans for Malaysia. Earlier this year, the Chinese automaker confirmed the launch of the Omoda 5 and Tiggo 8 SUV, and now it has added another model to its future Malaysian lineup, the Tiggo 7 Pro.

Unlike the seven-seater Tiggo 8 Pro SUV, the Tiggo 7 Pro is a mid-range five-seater SUV that, once launched, will go up against the likes of Proton X70 and Honda CR-V.

While like the original Tiggo (sold in Malaysia in 2007), the upcoming Tiggo 7 Pro occupies the same market segment, the new model is a whole different package. For instance, it gets a powerful turbo engine, a more modern and upbeat design, and several advanced features.

Design language

The Tiggo 7 Pro sure looks like a car with many potentials. Its assertive front profile, for instance, draws your attention immediately with those sleek LED adaptive headlights, T-shaped daytime running lights and fog lights, and the massive chrome-framed hexagonal grille with the signature ‘galaxy-inspired geometric matrix diamond’ mesh pattern.

The stunning appeal continues on to the car’s side profile as well, with the elements like prominent wheel arches filled with wheels ranging from 17 to 19 inches, glazed D-pillars & window kink, faux vents with red T-shaped insert, distinctive rear fender bulges, and a prominent shoulder line crease. To everyone’s surprise, the roof rails are illuminated!

The rear end is also designed with patience; it gets a full-width lighting unit, an integrated tailgate spoiler with triple brake lights, and a rear bumper-mounted number plate.

Cabin amenities

The Tiggo 7 Pro’s cabin definitely looks comforting, spacious, and loaded with features in the images. The company originally launched the SUV with several attractive features, like a 10.25-inch freestanding touchscreen display, a 12.3-inch instrument panel, a sleek horizontal dashboard with trapezoidal air vents and climate controls with touch-sensitive controls.

Last year, Chery China launched the Tiggo 7 Plus, which benefited from several interesting features like a new three-spoke steering wheel, a Mercedes-Benz-style windscreen display panel with a twin 12.3-inch touchscreen, and full-width air vents.

The question is what we will be getting - the original Pro or Plus? The answer will come once the SUV gets launched here in Malaysia. Until that happens, let's be happy about its arrival.

Powertrain

The Chery Tiggo 7 Pro will be offered in two engine configurations -

A 1.5-litre engine makes a maximum power output of 150 PS at 5,500 rpm along with a peak torque of 230 Nm between 1,750 to 4,000 rpm. The power is sent to the front wheels via a CVT with a nine virtual ratio.

A 1.6-litre direct-injected mill generating 197 PS of power and 290 Nm of torque. The drive is transmitted to the wheels through a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox.
