All-new 2021 Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid open for booking, few details revealed

KUALA LUMPUR: The all-new Corolla Cross is long expected to arrive in Malaysia and finally, we have an official word. UMW Toyota Motor has opened bookings for its latest hybrid vehicle with its launch not much far.

The Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid will carry an estimated price tag of RM 137,000. Though Toyota Malaysia hasn’t revealed the car’s specifications, the engine capacity mentioned in the released price list points towards Toyota’s 1.8-litre Atkinson-cycle 4-cylinder petrol mill that pumps out a maximum power of 98 PS along with a peak torque of 142 Nm. It is joined by an e-motor making 72 PS and 163 Nm. The total system output reads 122 PS. The drive is transmitted to the front wheels via an e-CVT unit.

Coming to the hybrid setup, the e-motor sources power from a 6.5-Ah nickel-metal hybrid battery positioned under the rear seat. In short, it preserves 440-litre of boot space which is the same as the non-hybrid variant. Not to forget, the battery comes with an 8-year, unlimited mileage warranty.

The Corolla Cross hybrid powertrain comes with three drive modes - Eco, Sport, and EV. While the former ensures maximum mileage, the latter offers a more responsive acceleration, and the EV mode staying true to its name is for a purely electric drive experience.

All-new Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid equipment will include -

• A 7-inch multi-info display
• Vehicle Telematics System
• Blind spot monitor with cross traffic alert
• 3D panoramic view monitor
• Toyota Safety Sense suite of advanced safety and driver assistance features

The above can be enhanced by two optional accessories - the digital video recorder for RM 350 (part of the Tech-Up package) and a Qi wireless charger for RM 520 (part of the Ease-Up kit).

The new Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid price as mentioned will be around RM 137,000, on-the-road without insurance, inclusive of a 5-year, unlimited warranty. A two-year warranty extension is available for RM 2,950. Also, on offer are the Toyota Service Savers maintenance packages - 3-years/60,000 km, or RM3,410 for five years, 100,000 km. for RM 2,190, 5-years/100,000km for RM 3,410.

Toyota Malaysia is offering the new Corolla Cross Hybrid and non-hybrid model in four new shades - Red Mica Metallic, Silver Metallic, Nebula Blue Metallic, and optional Platinum White Pearl for RM 800 extra. The upcoming hybrid gets an additional colour option, Celestite Grey Metallic.

Lastly, the wordings ‘Crolla Cross CKD’ at the bottom of the price list confirms the car’s local assembly, thus assuring its SST exemption benefits. Thus making the Crolla CRoss Hybris the first of a few locally produced hybrid vehicles in the country.
