A new optional upgrade reduces Porsche Taycan’s charging time

KUALA LUMPUR: Porsche has introduced a new optional upgrade for the Taycan wherein the car’s charging time is reduced to almost half.

The upgrade leads to the 19.2 kW onboard charger bringing the AC charging time down to 4.8 hours from the original 9.5 hours. The package retails for $ 1,850 (around RM 8,180) and requires around 12 hours of installation time.

Porsche has introduced a new part for the AC charger installation kit with the number ‘9J1.044.900.31’ which fits all Taycan variants. As mentioned, the upgrade will minimize the car’s charging time -

• For the ‘Standard battery’ Taycan version: from 9.5 hours to 4.8 hours
• For the ‘Performance Battery Plus’ Taycan version: from 10.5 hours to 5.3 hours

The new part will be installed at the Porsche Service Centres and as mentioned the process would take around 12 hours. As for the new Porsche Taycan, it will come fitted with the 19.2 kW OBC via the ‘KB4’ configuration option.

In order to take full advantage of the new 19.2 kW OBC upgrade, the Taycan owners can purchase a new 19.2 kW home wall box charger, available at Porsche Shop. The home wall box charger comes fitted with a 5-inch touchscreen and WiFi connectivity (for software upgrades). For best performance, the charger must be hand-wired directly to a 100 amp circuit or can also be connected to a lower-capacity circuit.

Porsche Taycan in Malaysia

In the local market, Porsche introduced the Taycan way back in 2020 in three trim options - 4S, Turbo, and Turbo S. The RWD version joined the lineup in 2021, and the next year, i.e. in 2022, came the Cross Turismo version.
