Exciting times are ahead for SUV enthusiasts in Malaysia as another ambitious Chinese brand is set to make its entry into the local market with two luxury SUVs. We are talking about Jaecoo, a luxury sub-brand of Chery, which will operate as a stand-alone brand in Malaysia. Last week, the automaker showcased the J7 and J8 SUVs, slated for launch in the second and fourth quarters of 2024, respectively.

According to the automaker, the ARDIS system reacts fast and stays stable, offering strong performance at high speeds. Intelligent cabin
The intelligent cabin of the upcoming Jaecoo J7 features an advanced 14.8-inch panoramic screen, offering entertainment and audiovisual experience. With the integrated Qualcomm 8155 flagship chipset, it offers a faster response to vehicle functions such as intelligent navigation, music playback, and voice control.
There is also an interactive W-HUD (Windshield Head-Up Display), which provides clear visibility of driving information within the driver's line of sight. The see-through chassis, on the other hand, gives a better view of the vehicle's status and navigation details, providing command over different functions of the onboard system.

The Jaecoo J7 is a rebadged model of the Chery Tansuo 06 with unique exterior touches like a chrome-plated grille, huge bumpers, and 19-inch “Aurora-inspired” alloy wheels. The under-the-hood specification is identical to the Chery model, comprising a 1.6-litre turbocharged engine and a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The former kicks out a maximum power of 197 hp and a peak torque of 290 Nm, enabling the SUV to hit the century sprint in eight seconds.
Local assembly in Malaysia
Chery Malaysia's President and Chery International's Vice President, Shawn Xu, has confirmed that the local CKD operations will involve models from both Omoda and Jaecoo brands. The automaker is currently assembling Tiggo 8 Pro and Omoda 5 at Sime Darby’s Inokom plant in Kulim, Kedah with an annual capacity of up to 20,000 units. Chery has plans to double the capacity moving forward, with the introduction of Jaecoo 7 and 8 in 2024, and the Omoda 9 in 2025.
