Ahead of the launch expected later this year, the first units of the GWM Tank 300 have already arrived at Port Klang. Here are the 5 things you need to know about this Chinese SUV.
Off-road DNA
The Tank 300 has an “off-road DNA", which means the vehicle is specifically built to perform well in challenging terrains, such as rough trails, uneven surfaces, and rugged landscapes. The off-road chassis features electronically controlled mechanical differential locks on both axles.
These locks can be activated with the push of a button to enhance the vehicle's traction and stability on challenging terrain.
Additionally, the Tank 300 features dual-speed electronic part-time 4WD, allowing drivers to select the 4WD mode according to the vehicle's needs and road conditions. It locks the front and rear axle wheels to optimize traction and control in various driving situations.
The SUV comes with nine selectable drive modes including Normal, Mud/Sand, Pothole, Mountain, Rock, and a Creeping mode. The latter automatically controls the power and braking system under special road conditions, keeping the vehicle operating at a stable speed. There is also a “Tank Turn” feature, which reduces the turning radius of the vehicle, allowing it to easily navigate the narrower places.
Two powertrain options
In the global market, GWM offers the Tank 300 in two engine options, including -
- 2.0-litre turbocharged engine producing 220 PS and 380 Nm of torque, paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox
- 2.0-litre turbocharged mated to a 48V mild-hybrid system, dishing out 245 PS and 380 Nm of torque. It is linked to a 9-speed automatic transmission
Retro styling
The SUV has a boxy styling reminiscent of the Jeep Wrangler and 5-door Suzuki Jimny. The retro-style front features a large grille, round LED headlights, and daytime running lights. The flared wheel arches incorporate large alloy wheels designed for durability and aesthetic appeal, with sizes ranging from 17 to 18 inches. The rear boasts vertical tail lights and a spare wheel, accentuating the rugged and adventurous aesthetic of the vehicle.
Plush interior
The cabin of the upcoming Chinese SUV exudes luxury with its European design and premium features. The key highlights include a cockpit-inspired Aviation gear lever, dual 12.3-inch interactive screens, wireless phone charger, Harman International Infinity sound system with nine speakers, ventilated seats, ambient lighting, and comfortable seats wrapped in vegan leather.
Making the cabin ultra-quiet is double-layer soundproof acoustic glass and multiple layers of rubber sealing strips on the doors.
Intelligent driving technology
The Tank 300 is built with a strong frame and body, making it capable of handling tough conditions both on and off the road. It holds the highest possible 5-star safety rating by ANCAP.
The global-spec SUV comes packed with multiple airbags for enhanced occupant protection and several advanced driver-assistance systems such as adaptive cruise control with intelligent cornering control and traffic jam assist, lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking, traffic-sign recognition, blind-spot detection, rear cross traffic alert for added safety.
Along with a surround-view 360-degree camera system, the SUV is also offered with three types of Integration Intelligent Parking.
