5-door Suzuki Jimny launched in Malaysia at RM 199,950

KUALA LUMPUR: The official distributor of Suzuki cars in Malaysia, Naza Eastern Motors, has finally launched the much-awaited 5-door Jimny to capture a larger share of the local SUV market. Compared to the existing 3-door model, the latest Jimny offers better practicality and versatility with two additional doors.

The 5-door Suzuki Jimny is priced at RM 199,950 (on the road, without insurance). Included in the price is a 3-year/100,000 km warranty against manufacturing defects.

In terms of dimensions, the 5-door Jimny is 300 mm longer than the 3-door counterpart at 3850 mm. The additional length translates to a longer wheelbase, an increased cabin space, and additional legroom and luggage room in the rear. Figuratively, the wheelbase is 340 mm longer at 2,590 mm while the cargo area is more than doubled in size, increasing from 85 litres to 211 litres. 

Design-wise, the new Jimny retains the same boxy styling as the 3-door model. It features an identical five-slot grille, round LED projector headlamps, a flat clamshell bonnet, and 15-inch dark grey alloy wheels. 

The SUV also incorporates squared-off bumpers made from scratch-resistant material and unpainted wheel over fenders. Adding to the practicality are two rear doors and a wide rear opening, making the loading and unloading of luggage accessible and easy.

While keeping the Jimny's classic look, the SUV comes loaded with several creature comforts - 

• 9-inch infotainment head unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
• Multi-info driver display
• Four-speaker sound system
• Automatic air-conditioning system
• Leather-wrapped steering wheel
• Fabric upholstery
• Reverse camera
• Cruise control

As for safety, it is packed with six airbags, an anti-lock braking system, an electronic stability program, hill hold control, hill descent control, and parking sensors.

Under the hood, the 5-door Jimny features the same 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated four-cylinder engine found on the 3-door trim. The said mill delivers a maximum power of 102 PS and a peak torque of 130 Nm at 4,000 rpm. 

Power is sent to the wheels via a four-speed torque converter automatic gearbox mated to Suzuki’s AllGrip Pro part-time four-wheel-drive system. The latter comes in three configurations - 2H (for normal speeds on the road), 4H (for off-road driving), and 4L (for navigating rough rocks, mud, and other challenging terrains).
