In terms of design, the new Peugeot e-408 looks almost identical to its ICE-powered sibling with a few distinctive elements. The EV comes with revised bumpers and front air intake for better aerodynamics leading to an improved range. It also features new 19-inch wheels fitted with special low rolling resistance tyres and an ‘e’ badge positioned on the boot lid.
The Peugeot e-408 is powered by a front-mounted electric motor that is capable of generating a maximum power of 213 PS and a peak torque of 345 Nm in Sport mode. The other two other driving modes - Normal and Eco, deliver different states of output. The Normal mode kicks out 190 PS and 300 Nm while the Eco mode further reduces power to 170 PS and 270 Nm.
Feeding the e-motor is a 58.2 kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery pack, which offers a driving range of 453 km (on the WLTP cycle). As for charging, it supports an 11-kW onboard AC charger and up to 120 kW DC fast charging. The latter juices up the battery from 20% to 80% SoC in just over 30 minutes, offering 100 km of range in just 10 minutes.
In terms of dimensions, the Peugeot e-408 remains the same as the petrol version, measuring 4,690 mm long, 1,850 mm wide, and 1,490 mm high, with a wheelbase of 2,790 mm. The car’s generous wheelbase allows the battery to be placed low between the two axles, ensuring that interior space is not compromised. The boot capacity is measured at 471 litres, which is expandable up to 1,545 litres, with the rear seats folded down.
The interior of the electric 408 also remains the same, featuring the classic Peugeot i-Cockpit. It includes configurable i-toggles and a 10-inch infotainment unit supporting TomTom maps, a route planner, a voice assistant, ChatGPT, as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Also part of the kit is a 10-inch “3D Quartz” digital instrument cluster, 10-speaker Focal premium Hi-Fi system, Black Nappa leather seats and advanced driver assistance systems such as automatic emergency braking system, adaptive cruise control with stop-&-go functionality, and active lane departure warning.
The Peugeot e-408 will make its world premiere at the 2024 Paris Motor Show later this month. It will complete the brand’s impressive lineup of 12 pure electric vehicles, which consists of nine passenger cars and three electric light commercial vehicles.
