2024 PROTON X50 RC launched - Same prices from RM86k, updated infotainment, new safety features, beefed up NVH

KUALA LUMPUR: After nearly four years, PROTON has updated the Proton X50 and unveiled the 2024 PROTON X50 RC (Running Change), introducing enhancements to its popular B-segment SUV.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What's new in 2024 Proton X50?

A host of upgrades, including better NVH, faster infotainment system, 360 camera, and powered tailgate for Premium and Flagship variants
  • Is it a good buy?

All upgrades has been incorporated in the original price, with no price increase, making it good vaue for money
  • Is there an early bird promo?

the first 5,000 buyers can enjoy a rebate of up to RM8,500 under the Early Bird Package,
  • The 2024 model is more of a very minor update rather than a facelift, bringing RM6,000 worth of upgrades without any increase in price. Moreover, the first 5,000 buyers can enjoy a rebate of up to RM8,500 under the Early Bird Package, valid until 30 July 2024. Broken down, that's RM7,000 discount, and RM1,500 trade-in overtrade support.

Quieter and Smoother Ride thanks to beefed up NVH

The new X50 is equipped with improved noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) package that significantly reduces road noise, offering a quieter and more comfortable driving experience. Over 20 areas have been improved to enhance interior ambience, including NVH improvements at all wheel wells, floor board, lower b-pillar and area near the top of the C-pillar. It’s minimal gains, but there’s an improvement in quietness when we tried the 2024 Proton X50 at Proton’s test track a couple of weeks ago.

    Enhanced Infotainment System

The 10.3” infotainment head unit now standard across the line-up has been upgraded with a dual quad-core processor, ensuring faster bootup and loading times. This upgrade supports seamless operation of multiple apps simultaneously.

The system includes “Hi PROTON” voice command and the PROTON Link app, allowing remote engine start and cabin cooling. Since it’s been a while since we have been in an X50, we honestly couldn’t tell the difference, but it’s snappy and fast with minimal to no lag.

    Convenience with Power Tailgate

A power tailgate has been added to the Premium and Flagship variants, providing ease of use for loading and unloading. Powered tailgate was not seen on any of the variants of the Proton X50 previously, so the addition of the convenience feature does add value to the Premium and Flagship.

    Improved Safety Features

There's now a new High-Definition 360 Camera, which offers clear images even in low light, making parking easier. The Auto Park Assist function helps with parking, and the 3D view activated by the signal stalks reduces blind spots for safer lane changes. It’s similar to what Honda buyers have been experiencing with Honda LaneWatch, but instead of it being solely on the left side, the 2024 Proton X50 offers a live blind spot video feed for both sides of the SUV which is a welcoming feature.

    Performance and Safety Combined

Unfortunately, there’s no changes to its engine and transmission, which means the Proton X50 is still powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged direct injection engine that delivers 177 PS and 255Nm of torque, with a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 7.9 seconds. That’s of course for the Flagship variant with the TGDi engine as the other variants gets a 1.5-litre engine with 150PS and 226nm of torque. As usual, safety features include six SRS airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), level two Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), and a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).

    Additional Offers and Warranty

PROTON is offering a five-year unlimited mileage warranty, a five-year data package with 1GB per month, and six free labour services.

Dr Li Chunrong, CEO of PROTON, emphasized the company’s commitment to innovation and quality, stating that the 2024 X50 combines sporty design with advanced features and exceptional value.
