Let’s get to know the new Volvo EV in detail -
2023 Volvo C40 Recharge powertrain, range, and charging
Built on the Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) platform, the Volvo C40 is powered by two electric motors, one positioned on each axle. The motors together churn out a maximum power of 408 PS and a peak torque of 660 Nm, enabling the EV to run from zero to 100 kmph in 4.7 seconds.
Mated to the dual motor setup is a 78-kWh lithium-ion battery pack offering an emissions-free driving range of 451 km (on the WLTP cycle). Compared to the XC40 Recharge which equips the same battery, the latest EV runs for additional 13 kilometres on a single charge thanks to its sleeker shape.
As for charging, it takes 7.5 hours for a full juice-up when using an 11 kW AC port. However, with the fast 150 kW DC charger 10-80% SoC can be derived in 28 minutes only.
2023 Volvo C40 Recharge exterior
While the front design of the C40 largely mimics the facelifted XC40, the side and rear profile give it a unique identity. The key highlights include - a covered front grille, triangular LED headlamps, a coupe-like roofline, a prominent roof spoiler, distinctive LED tail lights, a hands-free powered tailgate, and 19-inch black diamond cut wheels wrapped in 235/50 R19 front and 255/45 R19 rear tyre.
Coming to the C40 dimensions, the EV is 4,431 mm long, 1,863 mm wide, and 1,582 mm tall. The wheelbase is measured at 2,702 mm. It is 6 mm longer and 70 mm shorter than the model it derived from. The reduced height resulted in an attractive roofline and a reduced drag coefficient.
When it comes to the C40 Recharge colour palette, Volvo offers five colours viz. Fjord Blue, Silver Dawn, Black Stone, Crystal White, and Sage Green.
2023 Volvo C40 Recharge interior
The leather-free interior of Volvo's new electric SUV is decked with Charcoal trimming, Charcoal Connect Suede textile, and Microtech upholstery. Creating a calming interior effect is a unique topography decor on the dash trims, which is inspired by the scenic mountains of Sweden.
Just like other luxury EVs, the new C40 is also equipped with two advanced display screens, including a 12.3-inch instrument cluster and a 9-inch portrait-oriented infotainment unit. Both are powered by Google’s Android Automotive OS, which offers access to several built-in Google systems such as Google Maps, Google Assistant, and Google Play Store.
