2023 Toyota Vios coming to Malaysia; here's what to expect
Yes, that’s right. Next year, Toyota Malaysia is scheduled to launch the all-new Vios sedan. And when it does arrive, the car is expected to become the number one non-national B-segment sedan segment.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Name the key compititor of all-new Toyota Vios?
Once launched, the B-segment sedan will rival the ongoing Honda City. How much does the 2023 City costs?
In Thailand, the 2023 Vios is offered in four variant options with prices ranging from 539k baht to 689k baht (Approx. RM67k to RM 85k).So, if you are in plan to purchase a car in the segment then we’d suggest you wait a little longer. As the upcoming Vios will surely be a tough competition to the ongoing Honda City; it would be a great rivalry to witness, right?
It was only recently that Toyota introduced the new Vios in the Thailand market, where it is known as the Yaris Ativ. And we expect to get a similar spec model in Malaysia, maybe with some market-related alterations which we’ll only get to know after the car’s launch.
So, before that happens, let’s get to know the upcoming 2023 Toyota Vios in detail.
Platform
The sedan is built on the automaker’s latest Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA) platform. The same platform also supports the Toyota Avanza and Perodua Ativa.

Compared to the previous-gen model, the new Vios is 5 mm longer, 10 mm wider, and 5 mm taller. However, it is the wheelbase that has undergone a significant extension, 70 mm more than before, thus contributing to a much better interior space.
As for the Vios’ comparison with the City, the latter is 128 mm longer, 8 mm wider, and 13 mm shorter. The wheelbase reads 2,600 mm which is again less than the new Vios.
Exterior
The all-new Toyota Vios design language reminds us of the 2017 F-Sedan Concept and also shares clues with the larger models including the Corolla and Camry.
At the front, the sedan showcases a slim upper and longer lower grille with horizontal slats, both linked by a Toyota badge, prominent air channels at the front bumper, full LED headlamps, and angular headlamps with L-shaped DRLs.
The car’s side profile gets distinct character lines with one running through the door handles and the other slightly further down. The recessed wheel arches with 16-inch alloys (195/60 tyres), ORVM close-to-side mirrors, wide door opening and stretched back window line.
The rear gets tail light clusters bridged by a trim piece on the boot lid, faux air outlets, and subtle diffuser-like units with integrated reflectors.
Interior
The new Vios cabin showcases a premium look and feels and is more driver-focused. It comes with several highlight elements including - a freestanding infotainment system surrounded by soft-touch materials, a horizontal dashboard separated by silver trims, a 64-color ambient lighting system controlled by two switches, a handbrake/electronic parking brake with auto hold, a small storage cubby in the center console, air filtration system, digital air-con system, and more.
Other inclusion being - fabric/leather upholstery, a multi-info display, an 8-inch touchscreen head unit with Apple CarPlay & Android Auto support, T-connect telematics, two speakers, keyless entry & engine start, and a manual air-con system with rear vents.
The top-spec variants benefit from soft-touch surfaces, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, a 9-inch touchscreen display, four/six speakers, and front & rear parking cameras. Also, part of the kit is two parking sensors, an automatic air-con system with a PM2.5 air filter, a panoramic view monitor, a Pioneer sound system, and a red-themed interior.
Powertrain
Powering the new Vios is a naturally-aspirated 1.2-litre four-cylinder petrol engine generating a maximum power of 94 PS at 6,000 rpm along with a peak torque of 110 Nm at 4,400 rpm. The said mill obeys Thailand’s eco-car regulations and meets EURO 5 regulations; delivers a mileage of 23.3 kmpl.
The drive is sent to the wheels via a Super CVT-i gearbox and part of the kit are three drive modes - Normal, Eco, and Sport.
Safety
The 2023 Toyota Vios comes equipped with several standard safety features including - six airbags, vehicle stability control, traction control, anti-lock braking system, emergency braking distribution system, emergency stop signal, brake assist, and hill start assist.
The top-spec models also get the Toyota Safety Sense suite of driver assist features like Pedal Misoperation Control, Pre-Collision System, Front Departure Alert, and Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist. Also, part of the kit is an auto high beam, rear cross-traffic alert, rear disc brakes, an electronic parking brake with auto brake hold, and a blind spot monitor.
