This all-new orange GR86 celebrates the pure fun of sports car driving

KUALA LUMPUR: About a year ago, Toyota introduced the second-generation GR86, which created a buzz in the industry due to a significant jump in power, a more striking design, and tighter handling over the first-gen model. This all-new sports car is likely to hit the Malaysian roads this year, as assumed from the UMW Toyota’s announcement of unveiling two new models in the latter half of 2022. But, while we are still waiting to get our hands on the new GR86, the global market is enjoying its spiced-up version.

Toyota has recently introduced a special edition of the GR86 sports car in the US with a limited quantity of just 860 units.

Let’s see what makes the 2023 Toyota GR86 Special Edition different from the standard model.

• Based on the GR86 Premium Grade, the special edition GR86 dons in an exclusive orange paint finish called Solar Shift
• It stands on a distinctive set of matte black 18-inch wheels. These are paired with black centre caps and Michelin Pilot Sport 4 rubber tyres. 
• A pair of black strips are positioned on the rear pillar, which resembles to the one available on the GR Supra A91 Edition
• More black highlights can be seen in the form of black chrome tips attached to the cat-back performance exhaust system
• Also, part of the kit is a rear duckbill spoiler
• The interior is decked up with Ultrasuede/leather trimming and GR special edition badges

Under the hood, no changes have been made. That means the 2023 Toyota GR86 Special Edition is powered by the same 2.4-litre, boxer-four petrol engine that kicks out a maximum power of 228 hp and a peak torque of 250 Nm. The power is transferred to the rear wheels via a 6-speed manual or an automatic gearbox.

While no increase in performance is quite disappointing, the reason is that it is not a car-obsessed with more power. It celebrates the pure fun of sports car driving, says Toyota.

This special Toyota GR86 is expected to hit the US showrooms soon. As for pricing, no information is available at the moment.
