The automaker has officially released the teaser of the second-generation Axia along with revealing its key specifications and the estimated price list.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • How much does the 2023 Perodua Axia cost?

The 2023 Perodua Axia estimated price starts at RM 38,600 and goes all the way up to RM 49,500.
  • What’s new on the 2023 Perodua Axia?

The 2023 Perodua Axia benefits from new LED headlights, new exterior colour (Coral Blue), 7.0-inch digital multi-info display, 9.0-inch infotainment system, D-CVT gearbox and Perodua Smart Drive Assist ADAS suite.
  • Perodua offers the new Axia in four variants - G, X, SE, and AV with the absence of E and Style trims on the official flyer. Here are the variant-wise estimated prices -

    Variant

    Price (on-the-road without insurance)

    Perodua Axia G

    RM 38,600

    Perodua Axia X

    RM 40,000

    Perodua Axia SE

    RM 44,000

    Perodua Axia AV

    RM 49,500

The new Axia is almost RM 4,000 - RM 6,000 dearer than the outgoing model, depending on the variant.

Let’s get to know the 2023 Perodua Axia specifications -

    Exterior

Perodua is yet to disclose the complete design of the refreshed hatchback but has offered glimpses through small teasers. The SE and AV trims benefit from the new LED headlights and LED daytime running lights, while the G and X variants come with halogen headlights. The LED daytime running lights on the ground-up model are positioned in a large X-shaped recess.

Also new for the 2023 model is the new wheel pattern, however, don’t expect the dual-tone alloy wheels available on the rest of the other Perodua models because the teaser shows off only silver-finished units. The side mirrors of the hatchback gain electronic adjustment functionality along with an auto retract system, however, the latter is exclusive to the two higher trims only.

A new “key-free entry” feature is also mentioned in the brochure which is supposed to be a part of the top-spec model only.

Speaking about the 2023 Perodua Axia colour options, Perodua offers the latest A-segment hatchback in five hues - new Coral Blue, Granite Grey, Glittering Silver, Lava Red, and Ivory White.

    Interior

While Perodua kept the dashboard design under wraps, it does reveal some shots of the cabin which previews the new 7.0-inch digital multi-info display and the new 9.0-inch infotainment system. Both display units are carried over from the Ativa with the latter only exclusive for the range-topping AV. Whether it will support Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity or not remains a mystery for now.

As for the seats, the lower trims (G and X) get standard ones with pillow headrests, while the higher-end variants (SE and AV) feature semi-bucket type front seats with separate headrests available for the back seats. The top-spec model also benefits from two-tone semi-leather upholstery while the remaining trims continue with the fabric covers.

    Engine specifications

The new Axia was rumoured to get a new turbo mill and the official brochure proved them wrong. There will not be any turbo-powered Axia as the flyer mentions the “EEV engine” implying that the existing 1.0-litre three-cylinder VVT-i engine will be carried forward. The said mill generates a maximum power of 67 hp and a peak torque of 91 Nm.

What’s new on the mechanical front is the new gearbox. Yes, the official flyer mentions the availability of the new dual-mode CVT (D-CVT) gearbox that replaces the four-speed torque converter auto. With the new transmission assisted by the Eco Idle auto start/stop feature, the new Axia fuel consumption is rated at 27.4 kmpl (3.64 litres per 100 km).

    Safety

Like the rest of its siblings, the new Axia will also not disappoint you in terms of safety. The hatchback benefits from an enhanced safety pack, including six airbags and the Perodua Smart Drive Assist advanced-driver assistance suite. No information is yet available on the features included in the PDSA, but we may expect functions like adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, and blind spot monitoring. However, these are most likely to be offered with the range-topping AV variant.

The hatchback will be equipped with vehicle stability control, hill-start assist, and traction control as standard, confirms the brochure.

That’s all for now. We look forward to getting more information on the all-new 2023 Perodua Axia via a series of teasers before the launch that is expected to happen next month. So, stay tuned with us.
