2023 Perodua Alza is just around the corner
This new model Perodua Alza is long overdue.
The Perodua car manufacturer remains the top-selling auto brand in Malaysia as it is able to produce compact family vehicles in 3 segments without any competition from Japan and Korea. This Malaysian-owned car brand is a joint-venture with Daihatsu Motor of Japan (which incidentally was acquired by the Toyota Motor company some years ago) and Perodua manufacturing which is a Malaysian consortium.
In its early years, there was some rivalry coming from Datsun and also Proton, but as Proton started having engineering issues and Datsun (like Hyundai, Kia, Mazda, Mitsubishi and Subaru) was unable to compete on the price point (Perodua and Proton continued to enjoy huge tax incentives) the tipping point of demand ‘forced’ the disappearance of compact vehicles for sale from all other car manufacturers in Malaysia.
Therefore, with no competition (Proton quality issues), Perodua sales numbers were very healthy. One of the best selling models was the Alza which was a compact 7-seat car. With only the Nissan Livina (costing 40 percent more due to import duties), the Alza was an instant and continued sales hit, until today.
The Alza became even more popular when ride-hailing was introduced in Malaysia as many Alza owners benefited from the large luggage area (with 3rd row seats folded down) as an airport transport vehicle.
The first and current Alza arrived in November 2009 with a selling price from RM 55,490 to RM 64,190. The Alza had a 1.5L engine that provided 104 horsepower and 136 Nm of torque from a car weighing in at just 1,150 kg. In January 2014 it got a facelift inside and outside as well. Then in September 2018, despite its age, another facelift arrived. Today, there are most than 370,000 units of Alza delivered to Malaysians around the country.
This is why for 2023, there is a brand new Alza coming to all showrooms. With the continued relationship with Daihatsu, this latest Alza will be a reworked Daihatsu Xenia which is already selling well in Indonesia. Riding on a new global platform, DNGA which will be larger than the outgoing Alza. It will be 4,395 mm in length, 1,730 mm in width and 1,700 mm in height.
Details of the all-new Alza have been circulating on social media and one of the interesting facts is the two new colour choices that will be offered. Vintage Brown, Garnet Red and Elegant Black. Ivory White, and Glittering Silver will continue to be offered also.
