2023 Mercedes-Benz EQS500 4Matic CKD debuts in Malaysia
KUALA LUMPUR: Mercedes-Benz Malaysia unveiled its first locally-assembled EQ model, the EQS, earlier this morning. The production of the CKD model is carried out at the company’s production facility in Pekan with the deliveries set to begin in March 2023.

How is the locally-assembled EV different from the imported one? Let’s know -
- As the name suggests, the CKD model is a higher-spec variant powered by the dual-motor, all-wheel drive setup which generates a maximum power of 449 PS and a peak torque of 855 Nm. The EQS 450+ CBU, on the contrary, makes 333 PS and 568 Nm
- The new variant sprints from 0 to 100 kmph in 4.8 seconds, i.e. 1.4 seconds quicker than the lower-spec trim
- The top speed of the locally-assembled EQS is rated at 210 kmph, which is similar to the 450+
- Coming to the battery pack, the EQS500 is equipped with the same 396-volt lithium-ion battery as the 450+ and the charging times are also similar with the 11-kW AC charger taking up 10 hours for 100% charge. A 200-kW DC fast charger provides 10 to 80% SoC in 31 minutes only
- The range of the AWD 4Matic model is 695 km (on the WLTP cycle), which is 85 km less than RWD EQS 450+
- In terms of styling, the CKD luxury saloon sets itself apart with the Electric Art Line exterior package and distinctive 20-inch five-spoke alloy wheels
- Cabin inclusions remain unchanged with a 17.7-inch central OLED touchscreen, a 12.3-inch instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch OLED display for the front passenger, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay, augmented reality for navigation, MBUX Interior Assistant, Burmester 3D surround sound system and 64-colour ambient lighting
- Things are also identical in terms of driver-assistance tech, which include - Active Distance Assist Distronic, Active Lane Keeping Assist, Active Steering Assist, Pre-Safe, evasive manoeuvre support, Parking Package, Active Parking Assist, and Urban Guard vehicle protection
