2023 Jeep Compass debuts in the US with a new turbo engine

KUALA LUMPUR: After giving a mild makeover to the Compass last year, Jeep has now introduced some solid performance improvements for the SUV in the US. The latest model benefits from a new fun-to-drive, turbocharged powertrain along with a new 4×4 system and a highly-efficient gearbox. Let’s dive into the details.

The all-new 2023 Jeep Compass is equipped with a newly developed 2.0-litre direct-injection turbocharged inline four-cylinder delivering a maximum power output of 200 hp and a peak torque of 271 Nm. 

Replacing the older 2.4-litre four-cylinder engine, the new unit is said to offer exceptional responsiveness and enhanced drivability. It is mated to the brand’s Active Drive Low 4×4 system with a class-leading 20:1 crawl ratio, an eight-speed automatic transmission, and a Selec-Terrain system with a Rock mode (exclusively available for the top-spec version).

“We’ve received tremendous customer feedback on the Jeep Compass’ new interior and all the high-tech features, and now we have the opportunity to showcase the 2.0-litre turbocharged engine standard on all Compass models for the 2023 model year,” said Jim Morrison, senior vice president and head of Jeep brand North America. “I can’t wait for customers to take it for a spin, because not only is it more powerful, it’s also really fun to drive.”

Also new for the 2023 Jeep Compass are - 

• The SUV benefits from an updated wheel lineup, with unique designs up to 19 inches along with blacked-out options. The top-spec model rides on a new painted Gloss Black wheel, while the lower trims boast a new pair of 17-inch painted alloy wheel design
• The standard safety kit of the SUV now includes drowsy driver detection, a new rear seat reminder alert, and a security alarm
• Automatic high-beam headlamp control is now also available on the lower variants
• For those who want to stand out in the crowd, Jeep offers a unique appearance and special edition packages (High Altitude package and Attitude package) with an expanded list of exterior shades for special-edition Compass (RED) trim

The new Jeep Compass will be offered in five trims - Sport, Latitude, Latitude LUX, Limited, and Trailhawk, in North America from the first quarter of 2023.
