Say hello to Jeep’s first ever electric SUV, the Avenger

KUALA LUMPUR: To rival the likes of the Peugeot e-2008 and Vauxhall Mokka Electric in the European market, Jeep has recently introduced its first-ever electric SUV, the Avenger. Based on the parent company Stellantis’ STLA Small platform, it is among the 100 new products that the latter has planned to roll out by 2030.

The SUV looks pretty similar to the Jeep Renegade with a boxy shape and signature 7-slat front grille. The latter is edged by square headlights and a stylish pair of slim LED daytime running lights. 

Among the other significant exterior design highlights are flared wheel arches, black plastic cladding, smart-looking X-shaped LED tail lights, a chunky black plastic rear bumper, sporty alloy wheels, and a faux skid plate. The blacked-out roof and pillars further accentuate the SUV’s sporty appearance.

While the information on the Avenger’s motors and battery setup is thin at the moment, the automaker confirms that the electric SUV will offer an estimated drive range of 400 km (250 miles). It will be offered in two- and four-wheel drive versions with “impressive” ground clearance, and up-to-the-mark breakover, and approach angles, claims Jeep.

The hybrid petrol version of Jeep’s latest SUV is also on the cards that may combine a 1.2-litre or a 1.5-litre gasoline engine with hybrid tech. 

Set to hit the European roads in the first half of 2023, the Jeep Avenger bookings will commence on October 17, 2022. The SUV will make a public appearance at the 2022 Paris Motor Show to be held from October 17 to 23 at the Paris Expo Porte de Versailles.

The production of the EV will be executed at Stellantis’ plant in Tychy, Poland, with deliveries to be made in Europe, Japan and South Korea.
