2022 Volkswagen Golf GTI now on sale in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia has finally launched the whole lineup of the new Golf hatchback, including Golf R, Golf GTI, and Golf R-Line. We have already discussed the flagship Golf R and now it’s time to know the Golf GTI in detail.

Sitting in the middle of the range, the new Golf GTI arrives as a CKD model, locally assembled in Pekan, Pahang. It marks a historical milestone for the automaker as it’s the first time the hatchback is assembled outside of Germany and China. 

The 2022 Golf GTI price starts at RM 211,689 (on-the-road with SST exemption, before insurance), which includes a five years unlimited mileage warranty, three years free maintenance, and five years roadside assistance. 

Under the bonnet of this eighth-generation hot hatch lies a 2.0-litre TSI engine that generates a maximum power output of 245 PS and a peak torque of 370 Nm. The power is sent to the wheels via a 7-speed wet clutch DSG. Performance numbers include a century sprint of 6.4 seconds and a top speed of 250 kmph. The fuel consumption is rated at 7 litres per 100 km.

Also part of the kit is a Vehicle Dynamics Manager system that allows driving personalisation with several predetermined modes and individual settings.

In terms of exterior appearance, the GTI is easily recognisable with its signature honeycomb grille and red GTI trims. It also features full LED headlights and tail lights and 18-inch Richmond alloy wheels with red brake callipers. The list of colour options includes -

• Kings Red and Atlantic Blue with metallic finishing
• Moonstone Grey with non-metallic finishing
• Deep Black and Oryx White with pearl effect 

Hop inside the new Golf GTI and you will be welcomed by an entirely digitalised landscape, providing seamless connectivity and convenience. It features a new 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit with multiple colour themes, a multifunction steering wheel with haptic-touch control and heating, a three-zone Climatronic air conditioning system, and an advanced 10-inch Discover Media infotainment unit mated with 3D inbuilt navigation, wireless CarPlay, and Android Auto, seven speakers and an intelligent voice control system, that gets activated by saying “Hello Volkswagen”.

Constructed with high-quality steel, the new Golf GTI also provides maximum occupant protection in the event of an accident. Included in the safety features are six airbags, an automatic post-collision braking system, electronic stability control, electronic differential lock, and ISOFIX child seats.
