It was in March this year that Toyota Malaysia updated the price list for the Hilux with all the variants retailing for RM 3,000 more than before. Back then, the Hilux variant list consisted of four variants - Single Cab 2.4 MT 4X4, Double Cab 2.4E AT 4X4, Double Cab 2.4V AT 4X4, and Double Cab 2.8 Rogue AT 4X4. Thus confirming the drop of the 2.4G MT 4X4 from the lineup.
The latest update on the Hilux pickup comes in the form of the inclusion of a new double cab variant - the 2.4E MT 4X4. This one comes as a blessing for customers who prefer to drive the conventional stick without compromising on the comfort and driving dynamics of a modern car.

Price
In the double-cab body type, the new Hilux 2.4E MT 4X4 variant is the only offering with a manual transmission. The other one comes in a single-cab version, the 2.4 MT 4X4. While the former retails for RM 110,880, the latter is more economical at RM 95,880 (on-the-road without insurance).
Engine
Powering the Hilux 2.4E MT 4X4 is a 2.4-litre DOHC Intercooler VNT diesel engine with a displacement of 2,393 cc with 4-cylinder, In-line, 16V and generates a maximum power of 150 PS at 3,400 rpm along with a peak torque of 400 Nm at 1,600 to 2,000 rpm. The drive is sent to the wheels via a 6-speed manual transmission.
Ride and handling
A smooth ride is assured at all times via its independent double wishbone with coil spring & stabilizer suspension at the front and Left Spring, Rigid Axle at the rear. Braking, on the other hand, is taken care of by a ventilated disc with 4-Piston Fixed Caliper at the front and a leading-trailing drum at the rear.
Though unlike its bigger siblings it misses the auto limited-slip differential, this trim gets part-time 4WD with automatic Disconnecting Differential and rear differential lock. Also, part of the kit is Rack & Pinion steering with hydraulic power assist and has a turning radius of 6.4 meters.

Exterior
The Hilux 2.4E MT 4X4 showcases mostly the same design theme as the variants that sit on top with only a few missing bits. For instance, LED daytime running lights, LED fog lamps, over fender, front fog lamps, and power retractable ORVM.
Coming to what it does get is - an automatic halogen multi-reflector with follow-me-home function, bulb type DRLs, rear fog lamps, a radiator grille in dark grey tone, power adjustable ORVM with turn signal lamp, and bed liner.
Interior
The manual double cab version of the Hilux pickup is equipped with not-so-fancy but reasonable features that make the passenger and driver comfortable at all times. Part of its spec sheet is - a backlight meter panel (misses multi-info display), audio system with CD Player with tuner, MP3, AUX, USB, Bluetooth, six speakers, manual air-con system, USB charging ports, 4-spoke steering with tilt & telescopic adjustment and audio & Bluetooth hands-free controls, keyless entry system, power door lock, power windows with auto down for driver side, power door lock, illuminated entry system.
The car comes with a 4WD electronic transfer dial and three drive modes including Normal, Eco, and Power.
The seats are covered in black fabric upholstery with the driver and front seat getting a 4-way manual adjustable feature. The bench-type rear seat comes with a tip-up.
Customers can also opt for an optional front digital video recorder.
Safety
The security part is taken care of by immobilizer, siren with backup battery, cabin sensor, double locking and speed auto door lock. The Vehicle Telematic System is part of the pickup’s optional kit.
