2022 Subaru BRZ coming soon to Malaysia, here’s what to expect
KUALA LUMPUR: The second-gen Subaru BRZ was introduced back in November 2020 in the United States followed by Japan in April 2021. Now, it’s finally our turn to welcome Subaru’s high-performance sports car.

The 2022 BRZ benefits from a strong safety profile that includes several active and passive features. Price & Variant
Subaru Malaysia will introduce the new BRZ in two variants - one with 6-speed MT and the other with 6-speed AT unit. They will be priced as follows -

Compared to the previous-gen BRZ that was launched way back in 2017, the new model is not that expensive (around 15k more for MT and 9k more for AT variant).
Engine
Both the BRZ variants are powered by a naturally-aspirated 2.4-litre flat-four mill making a maximum power of 237 PS at 7,000 rpm along with a peak torque of 250 Nm at 3,700 rpm.
The transmissions come with a Torsen limited-slip differential system.
With the above setup, the manual trim completes the century sprint in 6.3 seconds and attains a top speed of 226 kmph. As for the automatic option, it gets from 0 to 100 kmph in 6.8 seconds and hits a top speed of 216 kmph.
Features & equipment
The BRZ’s manual and automatic variants get more or less the same features. Part of the BRZ’s standard specs sheet is the following equipment -

- 18-inch aluminum wheels finished in dark gray
- An eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android
- Auto and Apple CarPlay support
- A seven-inch digital instrument cluster

- Leather and Ultrasuede seat upholstery
Safety
The 2022 BRZ benefits from a strong safety profile that includes several active and passive features like - 7 airbags, hill assist, vehicle stability control, ABS with EBD, and Subaru Rear Vehicle Detection with blind spot monitor and rear cross-traffic alert.
The automatic variant gets a bit extra with Subaru’s EyeSight suite of features and driver assistance features that includes false stare suppression control, autonomous emergency braking, active cruise control, and front vehicle departure alert. It also exclusively gets paddle shifters.
Once launched, the Malaysia-spec 2022 BRZ will be available in seven colour options including - Ice Silver Metallic, Ignition Red, Crystal White Pearl, Magnetite Grey Metallic, Crystal Black Silica, Sapphire Blue Pearl, and World Rally Blue Pearl.
Also, each purchase will include a 5-year, 100,000 km warranty.
