2022 Proton X70 facelift launch on June 9

KUALA LUMPUR: After giving a mild facelift to its best-selling Saga, Proton is now ready with the facelifted version of the X70. The national automaker has started the teaser campaigning for the all-new 2022 Proton X70 facelifted on its social media handles ahead of the launch on June 9, 2022. 

So far, Proton has dropped two teasers of the upgraded model; the first one showcases the newly-designed wheels with the caption ‘Bold & Sleek,’ while the second one previews the ‘powerful and efficient engine.’ In the latter, we can see an engine with ‘Proton EPOWER’ written over it.

After scanning the teasers, we can assume that the 2022 Proton X70 will get a slight visual refresh inside and out. The shown wheel appears to be 19-inch in size and features a multi-spoke design. We have seen the same sort of wheels on the X70 Special Edition released last year, which was limited to just 2,000 units.

On the mechanical front, it is most likely that the SUV will be powered by a new 1.5-litre, turbocharged three-cylinder engine. The latter currently powers the brand’s top-selling SUV X50 and the export versions of the X70. 

However, the ongoing Malaysian-spec X70 is powered by a 1.8-litre TGDi turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine that dishes out a maximum power of 184 PS and a peak torque of 285 Nm. On the other hand, the new downsized engine is a direct-injected unit that makes 177 PS and 255 Nm of torque. Despite having less output numbers, the latter is said to bring some benefits like better fuel economy and better handling due to its less weight. 

Inside the new X70, we also expect to get a greater level of digitalisation, although Proton has not yet dropped any hint in this regard.

Well, for the exact specifications, we need to wait for the new X70 launch, which is just two days away.
