2022 Perodua Alza X variant analysis: Should you go for the base-spec variant?
The all-new Perodua Alza finally made its way to the Malaysian showrooms yesterday and is offered in three variants. At the top of the variant lineup sits the AV, priced at RM RM 75,500, followed by the mid-spec H at RM 68,000 and base-spec X at RM 62,500. With the generation update, the seven-seater MPV X trim is now more expensive by almost RM 10k. So, does it make sense to go for it, let’s know.

The new Alza X comes with cosmetic upgrades inside and out. For instance, the front fascia gets a restyled grille flanked by new headlights. The side and rear profile of the Perodua MPV also get enhancements for a sportier look.
Another big upgrade, you get with the standard Alza is the raised ground clearance measuring 150 mm. The length, width, and height of the MPV are also increased by 205 mm, 35 mm, and 50 mm, respectively. The cargo space has gone up to 137 litres (with all seats in place), which is 54 litres more than before.
The new Alza cabin is also more spacious than before; it comes fitted with flexible seating arrangements including normal, 5-seater, Sports, and Leisure.

Under the hood, the Alza X comes equipped with a new 1.5-litre DVVTi naturally-aspirated four-cyl gasoline engine, which churns out a maximum power of 105 hp and a peak torque of 138 Nm. The power is sent to the front wheels via a new dual-mode continuous variable transmission. The new mechanical setup offers 40% better fuel economy and improved performance, claims Perodua. With that said, the MPV runs for 22 km with one litre of fuel.
Why skip the 2022 Perodua Alza X?
While the new base Alza is kitted with a bucketload of design and features upgrades over the predecessor, it still misses out on a lot of comfort and convenience features that you can get with the higher H variant by paying an additional amount of RM 5.5k.
