2022 Perodua Alza: What to expect?
Perodua Alza has been popular among Malaysians for the past 12 years. And, now all eyes are on the launch of its new iteration. Earlier the production of the ageing Alza was scheduled to phase out in Jan 2022, but due to some production delays caused by pandemic, flash floods, and other limitations, it got extended until April 2022. So, as the new deadline has also passed now, and we are one step closer to the hotly-awaited model, let’s check out its expected specifications -
KEY TAKEAWAYS
On which architecture, the new Perodua Alza will be based?
The upcoming Perodua Alza will be based on the Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA).When will the next-gen Perodua Alza launch?
The next-gen Perodua Alza is expected to launch this year in Malaysia.New platform
The upcoming Perodua Alza will be based on the Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA), the platform on which the Ativa is also based. The new MPV will be a Toyota/Daihatsu co-developed product, with new Toyota Avanza and Daihatsu Xenia as base cars.
New mechanical setup
Along with the new platform, the revamped Alza will also feature the new engine and transmission setup. The expected one is the 2NR-VE engine that also powers the facelifted Myvi. The engine delivers a maximum power output of 106 PS and a peak torque of 137 Nm.
As for the transmission, the MPV will borrow the D-CVT automatic gearbox from the Ativa. This Dual-Mode CVT not only offers a smart response to throttle inputs but also works pretty well with the powertrain. The new Alza will come with a front-wheel drive only.
Full ADAS pack
Another important element that we expect to be on the 2022 Perodua Alza specs sheet is the full ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) pack. This is in line with the automaker’s strategy of offering Perodua Smart Drive Assist (PSDA) with all its new models. The new Myvi and Ativa come packed with it, and hence, we expect the new Alza to get it as well.
The pack includes the latest driving aids like Pre-Collision Braking, Pedal Misoperation Control, Pre-Collision Warning, Front Departure Alert, and Lane Departure Warning. These advanced bits will make the Perodua family car a truly compelling option against expensive rivals like Mitsubishi Xpander and Honda BR-V.
Striking exterior
As the ongoing model is now 12 years old, it looks much outdated compared to modern-day cars. However, we expect the new Alza to feature a striking exterior design with a new front grille, refreshed bumpers, and restyled LED headlights and tail lights. Perodua may also offer new colour options with the upgraded version.
Modern cabin
Not only in safety terms but the new 2022 Perodua Alza will be advanced in terms of cabin features and comfort. It is likely to come with a new 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster, a bigger 9.0-inch infotainment unit paired with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, new digital controls, a drive mode selector, and redesigned steering wheel and dashboard.
Higher price
Perodua offers the current Alza at a price ranging between RM 49,944 to RM 60,525. This range will surely go higher because of all the advanced features factored in.
So, are you excited about the launch of Perodua’s next-gen family car? Let us know in the comments.
