Interior
Getting inside, here we find a complete redesign with added features for the customers’ convenience and comfort. First of all, let’s talk about space. The larger exterior dimensions resulted in a spacious cabin. The interior length is grown by 115 mm, while the width is increased by 35 mm, providing more room for passengers as well as cargo. The latter measures 137 litres with the third-row seats in place, which is expandable up to 498 litres with seats stored up. Compared to its predecessor, it is grown by 54 litres and 150 litres, respectively.
When it comes to the seats, the new Alza is fitted with Multi Seats that debuted with the latest Myvi, but here you get a wider breadth of functions. You can slide or fold the seats to accommodate 7 passengers or transport stuff of different sizes. The flexible seating arrangements include normal, 5-seater, Sports, and Leisure.
Aesthetic changes can also be spotted in the form of a newly designed horizontal and layered dashboard architecture that emphasises width. It features a two-tone colour treatment on the top-spec AV. However, the material remains hard plastic as usual.
Equipment-wise, the 2022 Perodua Alza is loaded with the following bits -
- 9-inch touchscreen infotainment unit (Digital head-unit with Bluetooth connectivity with the base X)
- 7-inch digital instrument cluster (4.2-inch multi-info display with the X)
- Perodua first - Wired Android Auto connectivity (AV)
- Leather-wrapped steering wheel with a drive mode selector button
- Three driving modes - Normal, Eco, and Sport
- Electronic parking brake (AV)
- Keyless entry with push-start button
- Six speakers (4 with the X)
- Semi-leather upholstery (Fabric with X and H)
- Rear air-con vents
- 1 front and 2 rear USB ports
- 12V power socket
- Front dashcam (AV)
Engine and performance
The mechanical setup is also new for the MPV, which is identical to the facelifted Myvi. That’s a 1.5-litre DVVTi naturally-aspirated four-cyl petrol mill paired with dual-mode continuous variable transmission (D-CVT), which is the world's first split-gear CVT system. The engine delivers a maximum power of 105 hp at 6,000 rpm and a peak torque of 138 Nm at 4,200 rpm. Eco Idle (auto start-stop) comes as standard.
According to Perodua, the new drivetrain not only offers 40% better fuel efficiency but also improved performance.
The Alza fuel consumption is rated at 4.55 litres per 100 km (22 kmpl) on the Malaysia Driving Cycle and 5.29 litres per 100 km (18.9 kmpl) on the NEDC.
Safety
In terms of safety, the new Perodua Alza sets a benchmark in the segment as all the three variants are equipped with the brand’s latest Advanced Safety Assist 3.0 pack. It includes pre-collision warning, pre-collision braking (or autonomous emergency braking), pedal misoperation control, and front departure alert.
Also part of the standard safety kit are six airbags, an anti-lock braking system, electronic brakeforce distribution, brake assist, hill start assist, vehicle stability control, traction control, emergency stop signal, rear parking sensors, lane departure warning, lane departure prevention, auto high beam, and ISOFIX system with top tether.
The mid-spec H adds a few more bits to the kit, which are a reverse camera, front parking sensors, and Adaptive Driving Beam headlights with sequential turn signals. However, the range-topping Alza comes with more advanced driver assist technologies, offering SAE Level 2 autonomous driving capabilities. These include -
- Adaptive cruise control with stop-go functionality
