2022 Honda HR-V: What to expect?
Exactly a year ago, Honda globally unveiled the all-new third-generation HR-V, which was followed by its launch in Japan and European markets. If we talk about our region, the new HR-V is available in Thailand and Singapore and now it is set to hit the Indonesian roads this month. After Indonesia, we expect that Malaysia will be the next market to get the all-new Honda HR-V.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
What can we expect from the upcoming Honda HR-V?
The upcoming 2022 Honda HR-V is likely to get a hybrid powertrain under the hood, a classy and mature exterior, a comfy interior, and an improved Honda Sensing pack. When will Honda launch the new HR-V in Malaysia?
As per the market reports, Honda Malaysia is likely to launch the 2022 HR-V in the second quarter of the year.Backing our expectation is the recent spy shots of the B-segment crossover during a local commercial shot and media reports stating that the local dealers have already received an early preview of it. So, while we wait for the 2022 Honda HR-V, let’s check out the expected specifications.
New hybrid engine
The 2022 Honda HR-V underpins the modified version of an existing platform, on which the new Honda City is also based. The modified platform can also accommodate the hybrid powertrain. In the Thai market, the SUV is only available in a hybrid (e:HEV) guise, while Singapore offers one pure-petrol variant (1.5-litre) along with the hybrid.
The e:HEV system is combined with i-MMD (intelligent Multi-Mode Drive) technology. It combines a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated engine that delivers 106 PS and 127 Nm with an e-motor good for making 131 PS and 253 Nm. Combinedly, the setup generates a total output of 215 PS with a claimed fuel consumption of 25.6 kmpl.
The petrol-only trim, on the other hand, kicks out a maximum power of 118 PS with 142 Nm of torque.
The petrol-electric mill is paired with an e-CVT, while the petrol-only unit sends power to the wheels via a regular CVT. Both variants come with a front-wheel-drive system.
However, if we talk about Indonesia, Honda is expected to offer the new HR-V in naturally aspirated and VTEC Turbo mills. The output levels of the latter are still not confirmed.
As for Malaysia, the reports hints at VTEC Turbo and a hybrid powertrain.
Classy exterior
For the third-gen avatar, the Honda HR-V gets a more mature and classy exterior design. On the front, we can see a new body-coloured radiator grille with horizontal slats edged by slim trapezoidal headlights. The new LED daytime running lights are now connected by a chrome strip. A long bonnet and a sleeker roofline further accentuate the dynamic look of the SUV.
The main highlights of the side profile are a set of neat-looking alloy wheels (size varies from 16 to 18 inches), door-mounted ORVMs, the rear door handles integrated into the C-pillar, and body cladding in the lower portion. Towards the rear, the restyled SUV features slimmer split tail lights with a full-width LED light strip, a roof spoiler, distinctive creases on the boot lid, and a neat bumper with a skid plate.
A comfy interior kitted with advanced technology
Honda is known for providing class-leading interior space in its cars and the third-generation HR-V is no exception. With its “Man-Maximum, Machine-Minimum” philosophy, the company managed to provide an extra 35 mm of rear legroom in the new SUV, despite the wheelbase remaining the same at 2,610 mm.
For increased seating comfort, the rear seats of the SUV have also been reclined by additional two degrees. Adding to the passenger comfort are versatile Magic Seats (offering both fold-flat and flip-up flexibility), touch-controlled map lights, sliding front sun visors, and a hands-free powered tailgate.
The expected features available inside the upcoming Honda HR-V are -
- A freestanding 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system mated with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support
- 7.0-inch instrument display
- 10-speaker sound system.
- Automatic air conditioning system
- Multi-function steering wheel
- Three drive modes - Eco, Normal, and Sport
- A larger panoramic glass roof
Improved Honda Sensing suite
The new HR-V also features the Honda Sensing ADAS pack, which has been improved in terms of performance. Autonomous emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and traffic sign recognition, all these systems now work in a better way. The adaptive cruise control system now comes with stop-and-go functionality, blind-spot monitoring, and a multi-view camera system is being added to the pack for the first time. In Thailand, Honda offers this pack as standard, we hope Malaysia also gets the same.
So, ultimately the question arises that When will Honda launch the new HR-V in Malaysia?
As per the market reports, Honda Malaysia would launch the 2022 HR-V in the second quarter of the year.
