2022 BMW i4 M50 arrives in Malaysia, here's all you need to know

KUALA LUMPUR: It's exciting to be part of the BMW M 50th anniversary celebration as we get a total of five new BMW M cars. Included in the list are the 2022 BMW M5, M5 Competition, 2022 M3 Competition, 2022 M4 Competition M xDrive, and the 2022 i4 M50. In this story, we are going to check out the first-ever fully-electric M model in detail. So, let's get started with its drivetrain.

BMW i4 M50 engine and performance

As the latest model is an M model, it is more powerful and faster than the standard eDrive40 revealed in Malaysia back in April. Under the skin, it carries not one but two motors, one on each axle, together producing a maximum power output of 544 PS and a peak torque of 795 Nm. Powered by a single motor, the eDrive40 delivers 340 PS and 430 Nm of torque.

This extra grunt allows the EV to hit the century sprint in 3.9 seconds (almost two seconds quicker). The top speed has also jumped from 190 kmph to 225 kmph.

BMW i4 M50 range & charging

The BMW i4 M50 cruises for 510 km (as per the WLTP cycle) on a single charge. It takes just 31 minutes to get charged from 10% to 80% when using a 200 kW DC charger. However, a regular 11 kW AC charger stretches the time over 8 hours.

BMW Malaysia offers the meanest version of the electric Gran Coupe with the following exterior and interior appointments -

• M Sport package with a black double kidney grille, M grille badge, M rear spoiler, full M Aerodynamics package, and black rear diffuser insert.

• Glass sunroof
• BMW M 50 Year emblems
• M Sport seats paired with M tricolour seat belts.

• Carbon fibre trim inserts and black headlining

• Curved Display panel with a 14.9-inch control display and a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel (same as the standard variant)

Parts of the safety kit are a 360-degree camera system, park assist, Acoustic Protection for Pedestrians, Active Protection for Pedestrians, Parking Assistant Plus, and Driving Assistant Pack. The latter includes adaptive cruise control with stop and go, autonomous emergency braking, lane centring assist, lane-keeping assist and blind-spot monitoring.

BMW i4 M50 price

The more powerful version of the i4 eDrive40 EV comes at RM 430,800 (including sales and service tax), i.e., RM 41,000 dearer than the standard trim. The price tag includes a 5-year, unlimited-mileage warranty, an 8-year/160,000 km battery warranty, and a 6-year free service package.
