2021 Volkswagen Tiguan X revealed

KUALA LUMPUR: Volkswagen has officially revealed the Tiguan X Coupe-SUV. It is based on the standard Tiguan SUV and will cater to the Chinese market for now.

On the design front, it looks very much like the standard Tiguan. It features a clean look with a three-slate chrome grille that merges with sleep projector headlamps with LED DRLs. The automaker has revealed the car in the sportier R-Line trim level, which justifies its aggressive front bumper, wide and blacked-out air dams with C-shaped chrome elements, and silver skid plate.

The similarities with the standard Tiguan end at the B-pillar, as post that the Tiguan X roofline flows steeply into the tailgate, giving it a coupe-like look. It also features a blacked-out B-pillar, wing mirror and roof, strong shoulder line, dual-tone alloy wheels, window frame with chrome embellishments, and R-line badging.

At the rear, we see a unique design that includes a steeply raked rear windshield, sleek bespoke taillights with a light bar featuring a Y-shaped motif, and a boot lid spoiler. The rear bumper is reshaped and sports blacked-out dual, faux exhaust tips and a faux diffuser.

Coming to the Coupe-SUV dimensions, it measures 4,764 mm in length, 1,859 mm in width, and 1,628 mm in height. Its wheelbase measures 2,791 mm.

Powering the 2021 VW Tiguan X is a 2.0-litre gasoline powerplant that churns out 186 hp of maximum power and 330 Nm peak torque in lower variants and 220 hp and 380 Nm in higher trim level. The engine is paired with a 7-speed DSG auto gearbox in all the variants; however, the range-topping trim benefits from VW's 4Motion all-wheel-drive setup.
