2021 Toyota Yaris: Features explained
After months of spy shots and teasers, Toyota finally launched the facelifted Yaris hatchback in the Malaysian market back in December. The new iteration of this hot hatch not only has exterior cosmetic revisions but also has a number of additional features inside the cabin. For 2021, the Japanese automaker also improved the safety shield of this small hatchback by adding the Toyota Safety Sense suite to the Yaris specs sheet.
In today’s guide, we are going to explain the features of the all-new Yaris, but before that let’s have a look at its variants.

Toyota Yaris exterior features
Full LED headlamps, daytime running lights, and fog lamps: All the lighting units on the latest Yaris are LED, including headlamps, daytime running lights, and fog lights. This results in more light and less heat from the same energy used.
Follow me home headlamps: After parking the vehicle, the follow-me-home function keeps the headlamps on for a short time, so one can safely cross the way to the home.
Toyota Yaris interior features
Instrument cluster: The hatchback sports an Optitron instrument meter panel incorporating a 4.2-inch coloured multi-information display.
Infotainment system: In place of a 6.8-inch unit, the revamped Yaris gets a new 7-inch touchscreen display, which supports Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, Tuner, MP3, USB, AUX, and Bluetooth. It comes with the option of six and four speakers.
Auto air-conditioning: This system automatically regulates the temperature and volume of airflow in the cabin ensuring optimum comfort of the passengers throughout the journey.
Electrochromic rear view mirror: Inside the cabin, the customers also get an electrochromic rear view mirror that helps dim and absorb excessive light to improve night time driving.
Smart entry and start system: Just like any other modern-day car, the Yaris also has a smart entry system that lets the owner get in the car without taking the keys in hand. It also comes with a smart start system.
60;40 folding seats: This feature provides more versatile space for keeping extra luggage or longer items while giving ample room for rear passengers.
Wireless charger: The hatchback has a Qi-compatible wireless charging pad installed in the center console box, which meets the international standard for wireless charging developed by Wireless Power Consortium.
Vehicle telematic system: This system tracks the vehicle’s movements using technologies like GPS and GSM. In case, the vehicle is stolen, it helps VTS Command Centre to determine the location. It also keeps track of the vehicle's battery health through a mobile app.
Toyota Yaris performance features
Dual VVT-i engine: Powering the Yaris facelift is the same Dual VVT-i 2NR-FE 1.5-litre engine churning out a maximum power of 107 PS at 6000 rpm and a torque of 140 Nm at 4200 rpm. The said engine is mated to a continuously variable transmission with a seven-speed sport sequential shiftmatic mode.
Drive mode switch: The mechanical setup features two driving modes - eco and sport. The former maximizes the fuel economy by adjusting the operating parameters of the engine and transmission, while the latter gives a quicker throttle response for a sporty drive.
Toyota Yaris safety features
Toyota Safety Sense: This is one of the biggest upgrades of the facelifted Yaris, which include the following driving assists:
- Pre-collision system: This system automatically alerts the driver with a buzzer and applies the brakes in case of an increased risk of a frontal collision.
- Lane departure alert: This function detects lane markings on straight roads, and road edges, and alerts the driver. It works at speeds of up to 50 kmph.
Blindspot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert: When there is an object in the blind spot, the monitor gives an indicator in the side-view mirror while the rear cross-traffic alert notifies the driver about the vehicles passing behind the car.
Hill-start assist control: It stops the vehicle from rolling back on a steep slope.
Panoramic view monitor with a 3D view: This monitor allows the driver to see a 3D view of the front, sides, and behind the hatchback with the help of cameras installed on the front grille, side mirrors, and tailgate.
SRS airbags: The small hatchback is packed with seven SRS airbags, including the driver, front passenger, side, curtain shield, and driver's knee airbags.
