KUALA LUMPUR: It was in April that Toyota revealed the all-new Yaris Cross. Back then, we got to see the car in a handful of images with even lesser info available. But now, as Toyota has made its latest crossover available for the Japanese market, the automaker has released more pictures and details about the car.

We are not sure whether Toyota will bring the Yaris Cross to Malaysia or not. However, it is a good idea to know the car inside-out beforehand. So, let's get started.

2021 Toyota Yaris Cross Design

The Yaris Cross sure looks impressive with its urbanized design aesthetic that, without doubt, targets young buyers. A few of its highlighting exterior details include large air intake, exaggerated front bezels, wheel arches for black cladding, and a black roof. Overall the B-SUV offers a raised ride height and has a squared appearance.

Very much like the exterior, Yaris Cross interior also reflects a very youthful and modern appearance. When compared to the Yaris hatch, this one features a more squared design, and differences can be seen in areas like the glovebox and instrument cluster. The floating centre screen reminds us of the Corolla. The digital instrument cluster and the sizable multi-info display are carried from the Yaris hatch.

Toyota claims the Yaris Cross offers class-leading cargo space. It can take in 390-litre (with deck board removed) and is also the first Toyota crossover with a 40:20:40 rear seat split.

2021 Toyota Yaris Cross Engine

The Yaris Cross is offered in two engine options. One is a 1.5-litre 3-naturally-aspirated mill that puts out 120 PS of power and 145 Nm of torque. The other one is a hybrid version of the same 1.5-litre unit making 116 PS. Both the engine options are paired with CVT and can be opted in either 2WD or 4WD drivetrain.

The company says the Yaris Cross hybrid 4WD version can achieve up to 30.8 kmpl of fuel economy for the mileage figure.

2021 Toyota Yaris Cross Safety

One of the major highlights of the Yaris Cross is the availability of the Toyota Safety Sense kit. It includes driver assistance features like - pre-collision safety, emergency steering control, adaptive cruise control, low-speed acceleration control, adaptive cruise control, etc. It is also the first Toyota crossover to benefit from automated parking assist.

For now, the Yaris Cross is limited to the Japanese market; however, there are rumours of its soon Thai debut. In case Toyota decides to manufacture the crossover in Thailand, the car could be exported to other ASEAN countries as well.
