2021 MG 5 gets a sportier face for the Chinese market
KUALA LUMPUR: Based on Roewe i5, MG 5 is the automaker’s entry in the popular sub-compact sedan category. Undoubtedly, the model is well-built, looks impressive, and packed with a nice bundle of features. Here we have an all-new MG 5 in front of us, which looks different from what the automaker offers in the ASEAN market. Actually, MG has revived the model for China as per the CarNewsChina.com report. Let’s check out the details.
The 2021 MG 5 boasts a sharper front fascia, featuring triangular-shaped headlights, a blacked-out massive grille with an odd pattern, a redesigned sporty bumper, and a larger badge. The front styling cues look similar to MG 6. The sedan appears sleek and classy on the sides, thanks to the curvacious and well-planted lines and restyled alloy wheels. The rear end of the sedan is also inspired by its sibling, given its tail lamps and the faux dual exhaust finishers.
If we talk about the dimensions of the new MG 5, the sedan is now 74 mm longer, 24 mm narrower, and 9 mm shorter than the ongoing model, while the wheelbase remains unchanged.
Coming to the interior features, the automaker is still keeping the changes under the wraps. But we can expect the new MG 5 cabin will be inline with the exterior’s elegance and sportiness, thus assuming a sophisticated and well-appointed interior.
The current sedan comes with a three-spoke flat bottomed multifunctional steering wheel, a coloured MID screen, a large touchscreen infotainment system, cruise control, push-button start with keyless entry, tilt and telescopic steering, reverse camera, electric sunroof, electrically adjustable and foldable outside rearview mirrors, electrically adjustable driver’s seat, and automatic climate control with rear AC vent.
On the mechanical front, no information is available at the moment. The new MG 5 may get a new powertrain or perhaps carry the same 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated mill paired with a CVT generating 112 hp and 150 Nm of peak torque. Well, nothing is confirmed unless the automaker reveals official details.
In Malaysia, MG is likely to return in the coming few months with two offerings - MG HS SUV and the MG ZS EV, a fully-electric SUV, as per the reports.
