2021 Auto Shanghai: Audi reveals the China-limited A7L sedan

KUALA LUMPUR: The 2021 Auto Shanghai Show has introduced the auto world with some of the best creations and the all-new Audi A7L is one of them. It is the first Audi made in China and will be manufactured by SAIC-Volkswagen. Rest all the Audi products sold and made in the country are manufactured by FAW-Volkswagen.

It is for the first time that the A7L has adopted a sedan body form. In its new avatar, the car measures 5,076 mm in length, and its long wheelbase reads 3,026 mm. For comparison purposes, the non-LWB Audi A8 wheelbase reads 2,998 mm (98 mm less).

The car you see here is an Edition One variant whose production is limited to just a thousand units. Powering this Avalon Green metallic model is powered by a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 mill equipped with a standard 48V mild-hybrid system. Together the two deliver a maximum power of 340 PS and a peak torque of 500 Nm. The power is transmitted to all-four wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox. On the performance front, the sedan can hit the century sprint in just 5.5 seconds.

The car’s design is basically a stretched sedan derivative of the Sportback version. The same holds true for the interior as well, with the only obvious change being the ample legroom available for rear passengers. Thus making it apt for People’s Republic as they have a soft spot for rear legroom. Further, the sedan retains the same dual-touchscreen layout with Audi virtual cockpit.

The First Edition comes with several standard features like air suspension and four-wheel steering that make the large sedan easy to maneuver in tight spaces and also enhances its stability during high-speed cornering. Further, the sedan is equipped with all the bells and whistles for adopters looking for an elongated A7 with a conventional boot.

The safety profile of the car is not yet revealed, however, it is expected totally with the A7 Sportback’s kit, which includes - a 360-degree surround-view camera, rear collision mitigation system, lane change assistant, exit warning, lane departure warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and pre safe front with AEB with pedestrian and cyclist detection.

As per Audi, the deliveries of the 2021 A7L are scheduled to commence in Q1 of 2022. Further, Audi has high dreams from China. The automaker hopes its annual sales to reach a million mark by the middle of the decade in the most populous country.
