2020 Volkswagen Passat - Things we like

Volkswagen Malaysia recently rolled out the all-new 2020 Passat in a solitary 2.0-litre TSI Elegance variant. Earlier, the D segment sedan was available in three trims, two of which have been axed for the current version. As part of the refresh, the new Passat receives styling tweaks on the outside, highlighted by a restyled twin-slat grille in front and LED headlamps with updated graphics. Changes are also visible on the side and rear facets that now come with larger multi-spoke alloys and new tail-lamps respectively among other subtle revisions.

 Meanwhile, the Volkswagen Passat specs sheets improve over the pre-update version, sporting new equipment and features. In true German fashion, the new Passat brims with comfort, connectivity and driver assistance features. The ergonomically designed cabin boasts multiple storage points that make it a practical space with a high utility quotient. The 2020 Passat price starts at RM 189,012. While competing models are available with multiple grades in a solo or double engine choices. Even though Passat is priced quite high, it is worth spending a fortune considering the mix of features it comes with. 

Large dimensions 

The executive sedan boasts large proportions, hinting at a comfortable cabin space, and a large cargo volume for storing luggage. It renders an aggressive stance and a commanding road presence to the sedan. Measuring 4,775 mm in length, the cabin is built on a long wheelbase, and the broad width carves out more room inside.

Elegant design

Even though Passat receives new styling elements, it doesn’t lose the elegance the D-segment sedan is known for. The front, with the dual-slat grille, appears refreshing, while the IQ light matrix LED headlamps system comes equipped with LED daytime running lights. The dynamic cornering light and the dynamic range control are now part of the pack, which makes the driving safer, especially in dark. 9.2-inch touchscreen infotainment unit 

While the new Passat packs a plethora of advanced comfort and driver assistance features, the talking point inside is the new Discover Pro Infotainment system with a larger 9.2-inch touchscreen display. A customizable three-view split-screen function, voice and gesture control are also part of the pack. In addition, it also benefits from a new wireless AppConnect system with wireless Apple CarPlay. The USB-C ports are available at the front and rear also.

The new Passat is loaded with several active and passive safety features. The long equipment list comprises six airbags for a protective cushioning, electronic stability control, ISOFIX seats, protective passenger protection system and side assist lane change system.
